Treo 650 on PalmOne website with Cingular Service

Just logged onto PalmOne and right on top is the 650 with Cingular service for purchase. Time to buy!!!!!!

Just placed my order for an unlocked Treo 650. The confirmation email says it will ship in 1-2 weeks. I'll use it with Cingular, but also need it unlocked for international travel. I paid $650 for the unlocked version with a car charger and expedited shipping.

what do u mean you need it unlocked for international travel? isn't the phone a world phone?

let me know... i just ordered the cingular one. will the unlocked one work ok with cingular service?

A Cingular-locked quad-band phone will work in most countries with GSM service but only with Cingular's SIM chip. This means you have to pay Cingular's international roaming rates after signing up for their international roaming option.

This is fine for the occasional (short) call back home, but gets really expensive for making local calls inside the country in which you are working or visiting.

Using an unlocked phone allows you to purchase a SIM card from a local carrier for about $10-$15 and then use a prepaid plan to make cheap in-country calls.

Incoming calls are usually free on these plans so folks back home can call you using an international phone card (like the ones available at Pinzoo.com) for much, much less than the C...

the only problem with buying unlocked, unbranded is there will be no setting for internet, sms, or mms.

True, but since I already have three Cingular GSM phones, I'll just copy those settings or get them from Cingular support.

The phonescoop info says that the 650 doesn't support MMS or picture messaging.

IS this true?
