Couple of questions for veteran Treo 650 users -

I am a subscriber to Verizon (no plans to change). I have some reservations before I plunge into getting a Treo 650 -
Ӣ Does the phone go to sleep after 3 minutes regardless if you are using it or not? If so, is there a software solution to this. Is this a big nuisance?
Ӣ If you are using a bluetooth headset (say, in your car) do you have to manually dial the # or browse through your contact list on the phone as opposed to using a voice command via the bluetooth headset.
Ӣ Thanks

Yes. Don't know, read a little, no references to solution. Yes, very much so.

With the bluetooth, you can use voice commmands, scroll and press middle button or any other way to initiate the call. Once the call starts (rings), it will switch to your bluetooth headset (assuming you have paired it). You also have to end the call through the 650. From what I read, Palm left out the firmware hooks to allow the software folks to program the bluetooth button feature in. Not seen anything about a pending fix from Palm.

You can set the timeout for your phone in the preferences to whatever you want. The unlighted screen saves energy but it is not much problem. You can also turn it off rapidly with the Red Power button on the right without wating for it to time out.

It requires 3rd party software I believe for voice dialing and I have not bothered. In Outlook Contacts I put the whole name in the first name field with them set so they sort like I want (Club - name or Family - name, so Club members are together and followed by Family members) and for hot contacts I use the last name field for their initials or first name to pop them up quickly.

For the first question, I think the longest on the phone is 1 min before the screen turns off. There is an app. out there called Always On. It's free, and you can set the time for longer than 1 min up to always being on, for instances when you're using it in your car for GPS stuff. It's really not a problem, all you have to do is hit the red button and it turns back on.

For the 2nd, I think you can set up voice tags to do all of that. There are a few 3rd party apps, but since I don't have a BT headset, and rarely use a wired one, I'm not familier with it all. The Treo, at least the Sprint one, comes with something called VoiceSignal. This one you can dial phone numbers and contact without training it. Works really well, except that...
