I have the Sanyo VM-5500 so the menu list would be no different from the 5600, sans added features:

On either picture or video play mode, press the OPTIONS menu button. Select SETTINGS or CAMERA SETTINGS and select shutter sound.

For the video or even camera use, I turn the ringer volumne to SILENCE ALL. This way there will be no sounds from your phone, at all. But remember to put is back up or you will no hear your ringer go off.

in your second paragraph, i can't seem to find the options menu... settings/camera settings for the shutter sound. your advice on SILENCE ALL did work for my camera/camcorder... but i want to have the option (like my 5300) where the shutter sound is totally off when other ringers are always on. Hmmmm 😕

Go to the camera itself. There are two buttons just below the screen. One says CAPTURE the other says OPTIONS. Press the options button (they are multi-functional, so when in a different mode such as web browsing, the 2 buttons work differently)
