STILL No External Display?!?

Seriously, I am TOTALLY ON-BOARD with the concept of no-frills phone... my workplace in fact BANS the use of cameraphones.

BUT... no external display? C'MON... get REAL. 🙄

Guess I gotta wait and see what Samsung is gonna roll out this year.

I mean, I understand what you're saying, but that's what the VX3XXX series is. Part of having no frills means having no outside display.

The VX3100, VX3200, and most likely the VX3300 will be great sellers, mostly in part due to cheap cost and good reliability.

check something like the VX4500 or VX4600 for an LG low/no frills phone with an outside display, but I wouldn't hold my breath for an LG VX3XXX series phone with one.

If you can't have a camera, get a LG vx4700. 😁

It just seems silly, in this day and age, to not have at least a small, basic monocrome outside display, a la something like the Moto V265... it'd probably cost about as much and incur as many 'reliability problems' as the display on a digital watch. Which is to say, not much.

I think LG just wanted to 'refresh' the 3K line with as little effort as possible. Not saying its a bad phone by any means, just that it could be better.

Is that why the VIP Startac is desired by everyone? An external LCD is nice to have, but it also does not necessarily mean low end either.

I understand what ur sayin chum, but the statement itself is sorta illogical. Think about it like this:

You buy a 3 series Bimmer... it has 4 doors, a 1.8 litre turbo 4, pw win, dl and a cd player and it comes in green. Thats the product... but to complain about it not being a 5 series is completely pointless... its like getting a plasma tv and complaining about how its not a DLP or LCD...

Oh btw I have a 4500 by LG and its the dogs ballocks of $40 phones. I exchanged my KX2 for it because I couldn't justify the price difference for the 2 main things I desire... call clarity and good speakerphone.

Or you can look at like this: Its all just a marketing ploy... make ya pay for the little things.

A simple outside monochrome display is like the difference between a BMW 3-series and 5-series?

Wiggah, please. (j/k) 😉

I've been selling the 3200 since it came out. At first I hated it because the 3100 was such crap. The 3100 sucked not because it was basic or it dint have color. I mean it was cheap and it was a flip but they were like boomerangs. Once you sold one it always came back. So many service issues and just problems all around. The 3200 on the other hand has been awesome. The people I sell it to want something small that makes and receives calls. If they don't want small they take the free Nokia 6015 which is basic but pulls great reception and has really good battery life. Either way they don't care whether it has a screen on the outside. When I ask them what they like and i they want a screen on the outside there like what do you mean. I have to...

THIS IS GREAT. VERIZON SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A PHONE LIKE THIS ON THE MARKET. TAKE THIS FROM ME. I HAVE BEEN SELLING PHONES FOR A LONG TIME. I SELL FOR VERIZON. I HAVE BEEN SELLING THE LG3100,3200 TO PEOPLE THAT WANT A NO FRILLS PHONE AND TO CORPORATE ACCOUNTS THAT KEEP ON BREAKING THE OUTSIDE DISPLAY AND DO NOT WANT AN EXPENSIVE PHONE IN JOHN AND JANES HANDS. SO VERIZON DOES KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. SOMETIMES. 😁 😁 🙂 😉

I agree. VZW always needs a phone like this. The 3300 is "standing in line" with the 3100 and 3200. I sell for VZW, and I sell the 3200 all day. Customers really like this line of phones. Good job VZW and LG. 🙂

Let's be honest guys... if you gave consumers a choice between a 3300 with no outside display, and a 3300 WITH outside display, probably 9 out of 10 would take the outside display phone.

Its simply too handy... as a watch, and to see who's calling without opening the phone. Nor is an outside display terribly expensive or unreliable. Maybe a few years ago, but hey, its 2005.

Its not like it'd be hard to add it... heck, its practically standard on new phones these days. 🙄

Actually hey, never mind.

The Kyocera Soho KX1 just came out for Verizon, and it seems to be a good inexpensive entry-level flip with trimode and speakerphone (and sans camera, to please the boss) just like the 3300... except that it ALSO has one of those nasty ol' external displays that everyone here claims costs too much and breaks (uh yeah, right...).

So when it comes time to upgrade, guess I'll be checkin' out the Kyo (or maybe Moto, with the V260). Sorry LG, guess it's not meant to be.

Uh, if external LCD was so desired by everyone, it would have gone the way of the dinosaur.

It hasn't. The Sammy a650, a660 and upcoming X470 and the new Motorola without external LCD prove it.

At least with the LG, you can change the faceplate if you don't like it.

The Sammy a650 is getting replaced by the a new entry-level Samsung, the N330... which has a sliding main display that also acts as an external display. What does that tell ya?

Thanks for your input champ but we are talking about Clamshells with External displays, not bar phones here. And I have seen another SS without an external. Just because it's not on Phonescoop, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Oh wait, there is also a Sanyo without an external display and of course the Audiovox 8930. And the upcoming Nokia 2651 has no external display. Most major clam maker has at least one offering.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the market for cheap clams that don't have an external will never die while people still want the $0 phone.

I dunno Casual... that new Samsung could've just as easily been a clamshell... Samsung makes a lot of those.

I think you're right in that, for awhile to come, there'll be a small niche at the low end for non-external display clams. But at some point, they'll become extinct, because ppl will just think its too ghetto to have a clam without it.

Its like cars and power steering... there's still a couple of cars ghetto enough to not come with it standard, but the number has been steadily dwindling over the years, and eventually, they'll be gone. Product feature sets just evolve upwards over time... its kinda inevitable. Not to say that the 3300 is a bad phone otherwise.

Yep, the Toyota Echo 2-door manual doesn't come standard with it, or least didn't last time I checked. Crazy, huh?

Oh, and let me repeat that I didn't mean to imply that the 3300 was a bad phone. I know its good. I just think it could be even better with a dual display.

You guys are lucky that you know what phone you're gonna get... I'm just now hearing that Kyocera Soho is only a so-so phone, so I might be waiting for the Nokia 3155, which won't be out 'till the 3rd quarter. Augh. ☚ī¸
