You will also need to get a BB data plan and a voice plan. Text messaging is optional. Yet, you can use BlackBerry Messenger and Ramble IM without having to incur fees for texts sent. They both use data, which you'll already have when you subscribe to a BlackBerry data plan. I have also known others to have an unlocked 7100t on Cingular and only use it as a phone and for text messaging. Yes, it is possible. Yes, it does work.
