Trouble transfering mp3's

JIMBROWSKI

Feb 8, 2005, 9:22 AM
Purchased san disk 256mb mini sd for the 8940, also a san disk reader/writer. Formatted card in phone. Whenever i try to transfer mp3's to the card from my pc, i get a parameter error 😲 . If I format the card through the pc, i can transfer mp3's to the card but they won't play on phone. Tried reformatting card again in phone but keep getting the parameter error message on my computer. So is it the usb not being 2.0? the reader says it is meant for usb 2.0 for faster file transfer but, is compatible with usb 1.1 anybody else having this problem? đŸ˜ŗ

If your computer will allow you to put mp3's on the card after formatting in the PC, then do it that way. Then put it in the phone and go to Settings/Security (enter your PIN), SD Card/Transfer to New Phone; answer yes. Then take the card out, wait a second, and put it back in. That's what I had to do, and now it works perfect! Strange, but that's the way to do it.
By the way, somebody previously had mentioned that battery life is drained fast when playing MP3's. I've noticed exactly the opposite. My battery has only gone down one bar, and I've been through my playlist 2.5 times now (175 MB in MP3 folder. Great effeciency if you ask me.
Now if we could just get a work-around to upload pix and flix from the card to the phone.

thanks dude, i will try it. About transfering pix, i was told you can send pix as gif file attachments, send to (your number@vxwpix.com) and that will upload it to your phone. To get mp3 ringtones of your own, get an mp3 you like, shorten it to 30 secs, change it from mp3 to .mid (just play mp3 in wmp and goto file, save as ,and add .mid at the end),and send it to your phone as an attachment. Or you can goto walmart.com goto music, search for your song, listn to 30 sec clip, if you like the clip , right click and "save target as" ,then do the same as before ,convert to .mid and send to phone. I got this info from the 890 forum. Don't know how to do video.

When I did it, I formatted the card in my phone, not through the computer. The computer should read the main file, then inside that is the files for pix, flix, and mp3. The process I described earlier remains the same.
If that doesn't work, I don't know. I doubt VZW CS would help, but it's worth a try.

what i had to do was format mini sd in my phone like previosly said then when i put it in my sandisk reader it would come up as a removable storage drive with three different folders, flix, pix, and mp3. then i synced windows media player to the reader and tranfered my mp3's that way then went back into the removable strorage folder( mine was E drive) all the music was outside any of the main 3 folders so i dragged it into the mp3 folder after it transferred the music into the mp3 folder i shut off my phone, put the card into my then turnrd the power and the files were there. i had to let my phone reboot for the phone to recognize the new files. hope this helps

I had the same problem. After formatting in the phone, take a quick pic with the phone and save it to the sd card. That will then create all 3 folders on the card. Then when you put the card into your reader on your computer all 3 folders will be there. Then you can add/delete whatever you want from those folders, just dont delete the main 3 folders. It worked for me yesterday after trying it for the first time.

Ok, finally i got it. Formatting thru the phone didnt work for me because no matter what, i kept getting that stupid parameter error message, so if anyone is having the same problem, do this: format thru pc as FAT, then you yourself create the folders mp3,flix,and pix. Open the mp3 folder up, open your music folder on a separate window, copy and paste your selections to the mp3 folder. Then stick the card in phone, goto menu, settings,sd card, select TRANSFER TO NEW PHONE, ok, pull card out, put back in, bingo, you have mp3's đŸ¤Ŗ

sounds easy enough. the question is why don't VZW or Audiovox make life simpler for everyone????? for the average non techie person, dragging and dropping files sound like it should be it without having to create all these damn folders and having to put files in the appropriate folders... why can't i just dump all files to the root of the card and the damn phone should be smart enough to look for files there based on file type. these high tech toys with dumb software, i just can't understand!!! 🙄

That's a good question. Maybe it's because they had only so many pages to fill in the manual so they could squeeze it into that little box. I'm pretty sure verizon is reading through the forums and finding out, that their new phones suck, that the low percentile non-average techie person is feeling like we're getting the shaft on major design flaws such as crippled sd, picture id's on outer display, weak speaker abilities, etc. I switched to verizon solely on better coverage, but when the oppurtunity comes to leave, I'M OUT!

This worked for me the first time I did it. Some of the file names came out funky but that didn't bother me. I went back to replace some of the mp3s with others, and now no matter what I do, they don't show up. After flowing the orignial procedure, only 3 mp3 show up and mp3 folder has a bunch of unrecognizable files with Asian characters. I've tried everything, even restoring the phone, but nothing works. Has anyone encountered more problems when trying to replace some of your mp3s?

I followed ALL the Steps mentiontion in this thread and NONE worked for me. I read how different people used different methods. I even tried "JIMBROWSKI's" method of creating my own folders nothing!.

- What exactly is the name of the folder being created when you do this:
"Settings/Security (enter your PIN), SD Card/Transfer to New Phone"?

- Do you guys get a ".bin" file in this folder?

- Do the "other" folders appear in this folder meaning (flix,pix,mp3).

No matter what I do I keep getting an error
message saying it failed. ☚ī¸

TIA
