Memory Stick DUO

Quick Question:

I know the s710a uses the Memory Stick Duo format. According to Sony, the biggest Duo card available is 128Mb. Can you use a Memory Stick PRO Duo with this phone? If so, you'd be able to upgrade to a 512Mb card. Any info. would be helpful and much appreciated.

As of now, you can only use a Memory Stick Duo only, no PRO support.

We're all hoping that all of these delays will be attributed to them re-working the phone so they can support Duo PRO, that would be awesome! 😁 But we can only hope.

But as of now, it only supports MS Duo.

Yes you can. The thing is that when using a memory stick pro duo on a memory stick duo slot you will not be able to use the the higher transfer speed that the PRO standard has to offer.

Have you tried it in the phone? I was under the impression that there was a software limitation on the phone as well to keep this from working... I haven't actually tried it myself....

You people just don't get it. Mnimi u must be really ignorant. The S700i and s710 can't accept cards higher than 128mb. Its the way sony ericsson made the phone. It has nothing to do with software. If it was software then their would have been a firmware to upgrade. Its the actuall hardware on the phone that limits you. Now don't bother wasting your money and trying. Second the w900i is one of the best looking phones i've ever seen. Its the succesor to s710a. This phone has 400mb internal memory and can hold up to 2gb from the memory stick duo pro, can't wait to get it 😁

Hi there Jiqqaman, you are absolutely right. The S710a does not support the Memory Stick PRO Duo and therefore is limited to the max 128MB memory stick duo card. More info at:

But I think you should be able to use the Memory Stick PRO Duo format with a maximun capacity of 128MB in that phone. But I am not really sure, is there anybody that knows that?.

I can't believe this subject is still being questioned. I've owned the phone for almost a year now, and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will this phone support PRO format Mem sticks. REASON BEING: oh, Sony Ericsson just launched the w600i....THE WALKMAN PHONE, that has more built in memory than the s710. Why would they let you upgrade the memory of a previous model? That would definately hurt the sales of their NEW model and make it a pointless phone to sell. Can we say MONOPOLY?
