😁
So ive wanted this firmware sooo badly b/c mine came with the old one R1A... it was slow.
Finally i got sick of the slow/non-responsive keypad, i did a warrenty exchange via cingular's website. My replacement phone came with the latest firmware 😁 😎

Pretty cool. I applied for the replacement, 2 days later they sent me the replacement phone as well as a shipping label and packageing to send back to them.

cost nothing.. and i was about to send it to a website to have it updated.

Good solution for anyone who us past the 30 day return policy but within a year of owning the phone with cingular.

It sounds like I am in the same boat.

Where exactly did you go on Cingular's website to start this process? Did you have to give a reason other than the slowness of the firmware as to why you were making your exchange?

Thanks in advance.

or call 1800.801.1101 from a phone other than your cell. It's just the exchange by mail process, nothing new.

Yup, exactly what I did. Sad, but that's how you have to do it. Cingular wants to play games, you just have to learn to play them.

Well, you're my hero. I made the exchange online and got my new, upgraded phone the next day. Kinda cheesy that this is they way to do it, but at least it was quick and easy. Thanks for your initial post.

Thats how I did mine as well. Just got it last week. Now, if anyone is interested in buying mine, I will sell. Mint condition as I just received it in the mail last week. Make me an offer.

Why would anyone buy a refurbished phone from you?

If it isn't you buying it, then it's really none of your business is it?

Yea, I tried to do the same, and the lady from cingular (I had to call them, it wouldn't work over there website) said she didn't know what i was talking about, but she seemed to guide me through fixing it over the phone. She had me take out the battery (while the phone was on) and i gave her a number off the back of my phone, and it updated the software itself. She said if it happened again to just turn off the phone for a minute and it will upgrade the software

cool huh, well ill see if it works or not.

i had to get to the number to give it to her, i think they send it to you when your phone is turned off.

What she did was noty a firmware upgrade. It's an IRDB and OPL push. It's a troubleshooting feature that fixes Service issues. The number she got off the back was the 15 digit IMEI number. Offtimes people get new phones and the IMEI number is never changed. Sooner or later this will cause a service issue with the phone. SO by changing it helps to alleviate any problems with the phone.

I just got my replacement phone today. The software update is nice and the phone seems to be more sturdy. All is well, but I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to transfer games or am I out of luck?

what process did you go through to get your replacement phone, cingular rejected when I asked for a new one.

I called 1-800-801-1101, which is cingular's warranty return service, and told them I was experiencing some software issues, like menu lag and bluetooth connection problems.

They will be willing to exchange it as long as you've had your phone for less than a year and there are no physical defects to the phone. I gave them my IMEI number and I got my new S710a in two days.

The only problem there seems to be is transferring games. I don't think you can do it. Hope this information helps.

Good Luck

No you can't. The games are locked, and therefor uncapable of being transferrable.

You are right games are not transferable. What Cingular does is give you credit for the games that you purchased so that you can buy them again.

Someone else posted this once. I added some notes to it...

This works on all modern SE phones:

Start from the initial screen, with no menus open. Enter the following key pattern, ignoring what is going on on the screen.

> * < < * < *

(Where > and < represent right and left on the joystick respectively.)

Successfully doing this will bring up the Service Menu.

Then go to Service Info, then Software Info.
The firmware number is on the top line.
