How do I play .mp3 Files on the phone?

Hey there I've just recently purchased the S710a and I've been very impressed with the phone and it's features. My main concern is that I have recently loaded several MP3's to the Memory Stick Duo (32mb) that came with the phone. However I can't for the live of me figure out how to play the files. The phone says the memory stick has 12mb free (which is correct) so I know the phone is reading hte memory card as containing information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

LAPTOP magazine brought this problem to everyone's attention. It really sucks, because when you create an MP3 with a 16 kHz sample rate, it sounds very flat and lifeless. Oh well. This limitation is also noted on page 56 of the owners manual.

😢

Here's the LAPTOP Magazine article:

That's strange. I have a whole 128 MB card filled with 44 Khz (128 Kbps and 192 Kbps) MP3s. The phone plays them just fine.

Yeha same as jsh139, I have a 128 with 128/192k mp3's and plays perfect 🙂 I was quite impressed with the audio quality for a phone. Kinda sad that it will only support 128mb memory duo and not the PRO that reach up to 512 and up!

I wonder if the article is wrong because I too can play MP3s at a higher sample rate. Could page 56 of the manual be referring just to WAV files being at 16 KHz?? I admit to a lack of knowledge about this but the sentence in the manual could be read that way.

yeah, i checked out the manual, and it looks like the 16 kHz rate may be for wav files only. it's head to tell because the note is on the next line, and looks like it's for all of the formats...

Figured it out.. go to my computer, open your F drive and move the mp3 file to the mp3 folder as to allow the phone to recognize it!

Really, test it out. I definitely notice a difference in the sound depending on the bit rate. Some mp3's sound better than others. My friends are amazed at the sound quality coming from my phone.

Dude, have you compared a 320 bit rate mp3 to a 128 on the s710a? 320 sounds better, and quality is what I care about the most. If you prefer more space for more songs than that's cool for alot of people.

I have tried different music file conversions to keep the high sound quality and lower the file size, but the quality of sound will generally not be as good as a full sized 320 Mp3.
