Hi, I used to be pretty active on these boards back before the s710a was released through Cingular. I got my phone, I was happy and I went away. The other day I decided to cruise by here to see what everyone was up to when I noticed all the talk of the long awaited firmware update to fix the slow menus. My hopes rose..... but now I dont know what to do.

Basically, my question is, is there any free way to get the firmware update done to my phone? I called sony tech support yesterday and they said I could pay $37 and send my phone to north carolina for 7-10 days. The combination of $37 and 7-10 days of waiting are unnaceptable to me. Is there any way to get this update either without paying, or instantly, or both?

Yes, I do realize ther...

You'd think this would be the sort of thing you could do yourself with a download and maybe a cable, wouldn't you?

I am in the same boat and your right I am sure it is something end user can do with a cable and a computer. Meanwhile I have a new phone that they will NOT fix and Cingular folks do not even know what firmware is...

Here is the B.S. email from Sony asking for $37,00 and 7-10 days to flash a ROM chip, INCREDIBLE;

"Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

You can contact Cingular Wireless to inquire about any software upgrade programs they may have available for their customers.
Unfortunately, we aren't provided with a list of upgrades that are available for all the phones. This is because the versions can change daily, weekly or monthly for other versions. If you prefer, you can send the phone to the upgrade facili...

yeah, and all of the people who have had the phone for over 30 days are screwed (i bought mine June 1st.)

man, i wish i could talk to a tech, like like a level 1 guy, but a level 3, annd just ask him if he could burn the latest updates on a cd for me, and just tell me how to upgrade my phone. it wouldn't be that hard, ya know?

shoot, i just downloaded firmware upgrades for my psp (not updating them just yet) and it was easy as hell.

Warranty exchange. I called Cingular and told them my menu's are slow (which is fixed by the fw upgrade) and that the phone locks up occasionally, slight stretch of the truth. They sent me a new phone that had the new fw. Sent my old one back. All free of charge as long as you're within your warranty.

Cingular likes to play games, so you just have to learn how to play back.
