Here's what you can do. Call your voicemail. Then go to the phone options. And capture the moment in silence.

Now can any one tell me where to update the firmware to this phone.

Or you can plug in a headset and the shutter will sound in the ear piece and not on the phone.

The firware can be updated through Sony Ericsson.

I should have specified... You have to send your phone to Sony Ericsson and they will upgrade the firmware unless there's a Sony Ericsson service center near your home.

Well, im not sure if there is an upgrade, you'd have to call them.

If they have one, tell them you want to send it in for an upgrade. They'll give you an order number and where to send the phone.

I havent sent my S710a in to them. But when I had a T68i and T610 I sent those both in for upgrades and got them back promptly.

Nope, you cant turn it off. You have 3 different ones to choose from and that's all. There's way around it though, but no actually way to turn it off.

Actually there is a way to disable the shutter sound on the s710a, as well as the z500a and k700i. You have to use a T28 Unlock cable (DSC-11) and some software called total server.

SonyEricsson has taken the shutter sound "off" option out of this phone so that people whom you are taking a picture of know you are taking their picture. The design of the phone serves for the same function. Too much contraversy surrounding camera phones in private areas. There may certainly be some software to help you override the built in options.
