I have an s710a and want to use standard headphones (3.5mm jack).... In many discussions this adapter was suggested:

I have this exact same piece (SE proprietary jack to 2.5mm jack) in conjunction with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm jack adapter I bought at radioshack: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog %5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=27 4%2D373&site=search

MY PROBLEM:
When I plug everything in, I ONLY get audio in the RIGHT Channel of my headphones (silence from the left) :/
Not only have I had this problem when using the SE to 2.5mm adapter I bought online, but today I also went to the Cingular store and bought one from them (It looks different from the one in the link above). I ...

Using multiple adapters like that, it doesn't surprise me that it's not working. I'm not sure why but i'd recommend sticking with the 2.5 jack and find a set of headphones that use that.

So do you think it's IMPOSSIBLE to listen to the mp3 player in stereo w/ ANY headphones other than the included SE earbuds??

It's possible that the adapter you are plugging into your phone is right channel only. Since it is labeled as a "hands-free" adapter, it might purposely be made so that you do not use both ears to listen on a call. I think that it is illegal to be listening to earphones that play out of both sides while driving (even though the earbuds that come with it would allow you to do that).

I would check the packaging, or call/email SE support and ask.

Yeah it has to be the SE adapter..... So basically there's no way to listen to the mp3 player w/o using the included headphones? Nobody makes a stereo adapter?

Is it possible that this Treo adapter will work? I don't have the s710 yet but I am looking at it hard and would like to know.

No. The S710 does not have a headphone jack on it. You would need to use an adapter from the proprietary port to standard headphone jack.

Over on howardforums.com they mention a DIY adapter....It involved taking apart a T28 data cable and soldering in a ministereo jack from a cd-rom drive.

From all of my searching, this is the only way to use standard headphones w/ this phone's mp3 player 😲

Anyone know if this is stereo? Probably not. I guess I have to buy another SE headset and splice onto a standard jack. Am trying to output the audio into their car system (so I can sell my sony mp3 player - SonicStage has finally gotten to me after sticking with it for years).

Can't you just take and HPM-20 headset and splice the wires to a mini-jack cable?
