Instant Messaging on this phone...
how is the instant messaging (AIM) on this phone?? all i want is a phone that uses AIM and bluetooth (my sanyo 5600 doesn't have bluetooth). since this phone has such a great look and has bluetooth, my only question is how good/bad is the AIM. does it connect quickly? does cingular have a slow network? a few replys would help dearly. thanks!

AIm isnt bad at all. I use it all the time. I will tell you though to make sure you are in a good area because it will disconnect randomly. but that has to do with GRPS (Cingulars data network) in my area. But other than that its just like using AIM on the computer, except you cant check away messages. And it is relatively fast sending and receiving messages.

I've experienced annoying problems with my AIM on this phone. For instance I can't manage my buddy list on my computer to show friends on AIM in my phone. My other phones, all I had to do was make a group "Mobile Devices", or whatever it was called. And I added my buddies that I wanted to talk to on my phone in that list. But it doesn't work for this phone. Instead, the phone chooses certain people to add on my buddy list for my phone. When I try to add a friend, it won't add. For those buddies that were actually added, the AIM conversation wasn't bad. Chatting works fine. It's just managing my buddy list that can get annoying.

"the phone chooses certain people to add on my buddy list for my phone." & "When I try to add a friend, it won't add."
i don't understand how that's possible. say someone wants to talk to you and isn't on your friends list. and you want to add them to your list... but this phone won't let you??
also, say while i'm using the AIM on this phone, it won't let you add people to your list? i don't understand why this is. it should be basic to the AIM system...

if i remember correctly.. it adds the first 30 buddies on your aim/aol buddie list..

I tried making a new SN and only added 5 buddies to see if they all showed up. It showed like 3 of them on the phone.

I used to use AIM regularly on my v220 & then on my S710a before I recently had to discontinue my MEdia Works package. Although buddylist management is kinda quirky, I was quite satisfied with the overall performance of the interface. Of course, the BEST AIM experience will be with a phone that has a QWERTY keyboard (I would recommend the LG F9100 as far as QWERTY phones go - as much as I like Nokia, the 6820 has some SERIOUS reception issues).
SE has a great T9 interface, which is a plus. It helps to be able to manually add your own words/abbreviations to the dictionary. In testing the AIM service while @ home, I found that there was about a 5-6 second delay from the time I "sent" the text to the time that it appeared on the screen ...
