I have the unlimited media package (got it last month b/f rates went up), and i want to try my s710 as a modem. i have the BT dongle. My question(s) is do i really need a data plan($80) as cingular says, or can i use my existing plan? If so, what settings do i use? How do i set this up? Thanks for any info!

No you don't need the data plan like Cingular says, they're only trying to milk you out of money. Here are the settings you need my friend:

Telephone Number: *99***3#

Account Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM

Password: CINGULAR1

If you have Windows I cant help you any further than that. All I know is that these are the settings you use when setting up a modem. If you use a Mac, let me know and I can assist you further.

I haven't tried using it as a bluetooth modem on my powerbook yet. How do you go through the setup?

I got the settings that you posted but when I connect 'dial' i get an error "Could not open the communication device" which is odd since i have it paired with the phone.

There's specific modem scripts you need to download first for Mac... This is gonna take some digging to find that link where I got them. I'll get them to you as soon as I find them, shouldn't take too long.

Yes, I recommend the D-Link Bluetooth adapter, it can be purchased on www.apple.com (no, its not an Apple product) for I think $39.99 🙂

Let me know if the settings work.

I picked up a Belkin USB adapter from buy.com which was like $25 (i think it was a sale). I've been real pleased with it.

Logan,
I have a Kensington bt usb and it works great! What was wrong with yours? What I like most about mine is how simple it is to send stuff to my phone. All I have to do is right-click on a file and under the "Send To" is a BT option under which is my phone and voila! -- I'm in business 😁
Am I the only one who can do this cuz I've read other posts where people are going thru an awful lot of steps to send stuff via bt; whereas I can send a file to my phone in a matter of seconds and with one click of the mouse! 😁 😁 😁 !!

After i install the driver, i click on the "my bluetooth places" icon and nothing happens. I have downloaded the latest driver and still get the same results.

That happened to me once after I ran a registry cleaning program so I uninstalled the bt app and then reinstalled it and I was back in business. Also be sure that your phone is set to "show phone" under visibility in the options section of Bluetooth on your phone. Hope it works out for you cuz it really is amazingly easy to transfer files when it does 😁!
