Nextel SIM vs Cingular s710a SIM
I have a nextel i730, just purchased a cingular s710a, i want to transfer all the phone #s onto my cingular sim card when it gets here in the mail. Can I take my nextel sim, put it in the cingular phone, and is there like a "download phonebook" feature where I can download all the numbers to my new phone?

Well, from my experiences, Nextel phones do not have the ability to store numbers on the sim. It is only used as the subscriber identity module. If it is possible, the next thing is that the S710 is coming locked, so what I hear in these forums, so when you put your Nextel sim in the S710, it will ask for an unlock or subsidy code. To get that will be a pain in the @ss depending on who you know. I can get it unlocked for you for free but I don't think it'll be possible. Take it to a place that has a phonebook transfer module. They might charge like $10-$20 but will be worth it... Hope this helps!!! 😉

thanks for the help man, but i do know that my phonebook is saved on my sim, cause i transfer it to my other nextel phones and it has all my numbers still,
i guess my real question is, can i download all my numbers to the s710s memory, and then when i replace the sim with teh original cingular sim, it will be stored on thephone and i can just download all the phonebook entries back onto the sim, or even just leave it on the phone, i just don't even have close to the time to start hand jamming all these numbers in..

More than likely the OS will STOP DEAD on boot once it realizes a non-Cingular SIM is installed. Without the subsidy unlock code, you'll be out of luck.

Nope the i730 doesnt have IR or BT. I do have a USB data cable for it, but I don't have a clue how to download the phonebook list off of it.

If you go into a cingular wireless store they should have a device called a Universal Memory Exchanger that they can use to transfer all your contacts from your nextel to your new phone. 😁
