Yes, the stores now have both the 890 and the 8000 in stock. Some have the 8940 too. None are on display yet, but if you have a friend on the staff, he may pull them out from behind the counter and let you see them.

The Audiovox 8940 is in route and should be in hopefully at the same time they launch all three phones on Feb 1.

How do they compare? 🙄

Don't get hung up on which one has a better camera and base it only on megapixels. There is more to a good camera than pixel count.

The 8000 has a bright and large screen. The pictures, both indoors and outdoors have better color and saturation and generally look better than the 890. But the 8000 is HUGE!! No, it will NOT be comfortable in a pants pocket. The 8000 is one of th...

"The 8940 has one BIG advantage in that it has a removable mini SD card. If you will be transfering pictures, video, ringtones or other data, like movies or TV clips, either to your computer or with others, this is very handy and SAVES a lot of money"

-WRONG! the sd card is good only for phone memory expansion, will allow you to save more pics, videos, and downloaded mp3's to card ... but you can't transfer to pc, files locked. the only thing you can transfer from pc to card are mp3's, but wait, you can't use them as ringtones...only listen to them, how else will verizon make money, you have to pay for your mp3 as ringtones, BOY! 🤣

I wrote this a long time ago for the v710, but it works on the 9900, 8000, and should for the a890 as well as the 8940.
Free 30 sec ringtones-mp3
by nine178 Oct 15, 2004, 10:04 PM

I dont know if you all know about this 30 sec mp3 free music clip trick or not, but here it is. I can not take credit for this, I actually found it on another forum and think its worth spreading.
For free 30 sec mp3 music:
-Go to Walmart.com, search under Music, do any kind of specific search like sound effects or broad search like rock.
-Click on any album and scroll down, walmart allows you to listen to 30 seconds of almost every song on every album.
-To listen first just left click on the side on the song where it says "mp3 audio" winamp will pop u...

I did everything you said, walmart, saved music clip, opened in wmp, saved as a mid file and sent to my phone. All i get is a text from verizon saying i have a pix or vid message and to goto vzwpix.com to view. All the steps you said were exact excpet when i added the .mid at the end, i didn't get to change mp3 format to "save all files" as you say, it only said "any file" in the save window. But it did duplicate and the second file was in midi. So why isn't it working? i have the 8940

That means that your phone has a small glitch in setting up your retrieval of pic messages. I had two phones that had this same exact problem. The first one I brought into the vzw store and had a tech play with it and fix it. The second time I was so pissed....I called 611 and did it over the phone with a tech. Mind you that it took me over 45 min on the phone with them. Call from your cell phone and then give them a land line # and they'll call you back on the landline.
You can send pics, and ringtones using the conversion mp3 to .mid. I did it on the v710, on the 9900, and on my current 8000.

One way to check to see if the phone is just not set up yet to recieve pics (in your case tunes) is by sending yourself a pic.
I figured out th...

You were right, can't send myself pics 😲 . I thought I corrected this problem the other night when i upgraded to a pix/text package and they said it would take up to 2 hours to reactivate the mms network, damn 😡, back to calling them again, i think i've been on the phone with them longer than my girlfriend. I have to wait until later, no (land line). So if i change a pic to .mid from jpeg it will come thru? how about a short flick from my pc maybe mpeg or avi? will the phone open it up?

No I dont think you shoild change a pic to a .mid. Leave the animation, GIF, pic as its regular form.
Heres a great site for free animated pics/GIF's
http://Gif.net »
...and Im not really sure about short videos to be honest.

Sorry about that linkit didnt work...try

There are a lot of free sites, all you need to do is right click the image save to a folder, than open up in an email. I do NOT attatch the picture. I actually open it up in the email by right clicking in the message area and scrolling up to (insert a picture), this allows you to find the folder (I store things in my documents- under "all files" so its easier to find)

Thats it send it to YourVZW#@vzwpix.com

i downloaded a midi ringer from brewbackups & sent it to my samsung 890 using the email method to vzwpix. the transfer works fine - the midi file is in my phone, i can hear it play, and it's saved in "my sounds" but when i try to set it as a ringtone it gives me the msg "cannot assign non-drm content as ringer." is it the midi file that's the prob? or is it the samsung? or something else? i hear that the lg vx8000 and audiovox 8940 can set the ringtones, so what's up w/the samsung?
