How to back up my phone?

I don't have a lot on my phone, but need to know how to save as much of it as I can...

I've got a v551 that I am sending back to Cingular because it has a problem with the audio. Quite often, I can only hear when using the speakerphone option, even though my volume is set to 7.

I know I can save all my phone numbers to the sim card, but what about other settings, ringtones, pictures, etc?

I know I can bluetooth the pics and sounds to my computer and then transfer them back to the new phone, but I thought that maybe there was a way to back up all of the settings to the sim so that I can just pop it into the new phone and have it set up like this one...

Do I need to buy that Motorola software and cable that I keep hearing about?

There's no way to backup the settings I'm afraid. Even Motorola's software does not do that.

With a data cable you can backup pictures, ringtones, games you downloaded. Many of the payed for ones will probably be locked anyway. You can tell if they are locked if they show a small padlock symbol on them. That means the phone will not let you transfer them via bluetooth or email attachment.

Hmmm... Guess I have to go out and get one of those cables. I should be able to pick this up at any Cingular dealer, or just any wireless store that carries Motorola phones, right?

Thanks for the advice!

Possibly. I had bought the Motorla Phone Tools software and cable direct from Motorola for my v551.

Once you get the cable you can goto the following websites for the software to connect to your phone (P2K programs) and various forums:
