Volume getting worse on phone...

I've had this phone since January, and within the past two weeks, I've noticed that the volume of the incoming caller's voice has gotten significantly worse over a short period of time (where occassionally, I am forced to put them on speaker just to hear them).

Is there anything that I can do to improve upon this? I have gone the ultra stupid route and confirmed that the volume is maxed, so it's not something quite that mundane...

Also, has anybody else experienced this?

I had the v300 for over a year and the sound quality on the incoming caller's voice was always low - but in the end it went out totally - I had to use the speaker or headset to hear on it at all. Now I'm trying to decide between the Nokia 6101 or the v330 (I hear they worked out a lot of the bugs from the v300 version?)

Not sure what to do.....

If you have a data cable (or know a friend that has one) for the v551 then you can do a simple seem edit which will give your v551 the vibe and ring option.

It has it as it's part of the OS of the phone. It's just apparently turned off by default. Maybe Cingular didn't want customers to have that option or Motorola simply didn't enable it in the early releases of the phone.. Who knows.

its the flash ver. the old phones didnt have it but the new phones with new flash have it you can edit the seem to get the ear vol. up but i dont know how long that would last and what is making the phone do this so you may have to seem edit every few months i have not tried this as i feel if i have a faulty phone i shouldnt be the one to fix if it is under waranty but here is how to crank up the ear vol. and unlock vibe and ring

earpiece vol.
go to offset 0D (in Adr. Hex, you'll only see "D"). The default value is 01, and you can adjust the settings in the gain_table.bin from 00 to 08. "00" is silent, and "08" is as loud as possible

vibe and ring
Seem 0032, offset 7A, bit 4

LisaMichael where in TN are you. There are some technicians in TN that can fix your speaker BTW it is a speaker issue not a software issue

This is indeed an ELECTRICAL defect, not SOFTWARE.

A local guy in San Francisco said he'd fix the same problem for $15 labor, $25 parts. The parts include a change in the microphone as well as the speaker. I didn't do it. I'd rather buy a cheap bluetooth earpiece, or buy the microphone & speaker by myself and solder them in. Anyway, there's no guarantee that it wouldn't happen again.
