Another problem with my moto v551
The first problem i had with my phone was that the volume was really low when you were talking on the handset or you could not hear at all on it. The only way you could hear was if it was on speaker phone. So i called cingular and got a new phone in yesterday and the outer display does not work on the new phone that was sent to me. I guess I have to call again and get a new phone again. I want to see if i can just upgrade to the razr if that is possible. If anyone knows anything or has any information on this let me know. The first problem:
This is a common problem with almost all of the V series flip phones. If the outside speaker works and the ear piece does not, then it is a connection problem inside. The ear piece is not hard wired into the phone. There is a ribbon cable with 2 soldered points that make contact with a connection on the back of the ear piece. The area for this "connection" is relatively small and a simple drop or wear and tear can move the area a fraction of an inch. A few things can be done about this:
First, if it is under warranty return it to the store and have a salesman call and state that the phone is in good condition prior to using the exchange program.
If it is out of warranty here are a few tricks;

I followed your advice and this totally worked! I opened it and saw that the little ribbon connector wasn't even pressing down on the connection part. I fixed it by putting a foam "disk" in the phone that pressed the connection onto the connection part. It seems to work now.

Yea the volume on this phone sucks and its almost pointless to keep having cingular replace them ive done that 7 times and none of them work and the razr is just as bad any motorola phone that cingular has its own problems thats why they change them every few months for the most part. Right now I have the v551 but im waiting for the nokia 6102 to come out so i can get a nice working phone.
