EDGE Speed via Tethering to Laptop?

Has anyone tried to tether V551 and a PC? My connection speed is only around 25 kbs download and 25 kbs upload.

V551 should be Class 4 EDGE and Class 10 GPRS. AT&T technical assistant told me that the EDGE tethering should be 60 to 80 kbs and GPRS is 20 to 45 kbs. I have AT&T SIM and they told me that it should not make any difference.

Has anyone got the EDGE speed via V551? I use Bluetooth connection. Is there any difference using the USB cable instead of Bluetooth?

Any input will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I am interested in EDGE as well. First, how do you check the speed while you are on Bluetooth?

There are various websites where you can check the internet speed. One I usually use is the http://speedtest.dslreports.com/. Also the http://www.cnet.com has the broadband meter toward the bottom of the list of options on the left side. Or the AT&T tech rep recommended http://www.2wire.com, but I never got it working for me.

These sites measures actual internet connection speed regardless of connections between a computer and your cellphone.

If you share your internet speed with your cellphone, I will appreciate it.

Thank you.

Actually, I was asking you how to test the bluetooth connection speed between your phone and PC/notebook, since I don't have any internet service on my V551 phone.

How are you connecting to EDGE via Bluetooth? I am doing it via the modem profile on the phone. The configuration on the PC for this 'modem' has a max data rate of 115,200 - because it is essentially a serial connection. Seems to me that this is the bottleneck - not the bluetooth connection itself which I believe has a theoretical limit of 700 kbps.

What settings do you use for the dial-up connection on your PC? Mine are:

Number: #99*
User ID: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

Curious to know if there is a 'better' way of connecting because I have been told that this does not actually get you on the EDGE network.

Thanks.

Did you mean to say you dial *99#?? On my Nokia my user name is ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM but I just got a V551 and I can't get it to connect. Any ideas??
