"Enter Subsidy Password"

Hello,

I purchased a Motorola V551 to use with my AT&T plan and when I turn it on with my AT&T SIM card install, it says "Enter Subsidy Password."

I assume it means that Cingular has now locked their phones.

Does anyone have the code to unlock it?

Cingular wont release your subsity code to you. Your gonna have to migrate over into the cingular systems to use that phone. If you somehow do manage to get it unlocked, Text messaging, MMS, Wireless internet will all not work because the phone is pre-loaded with the Cingular system settings, which dont work properly if you have AT&T (or in reverse, with an AT&T Phone and a Cingular SIM). Hope your still within your return policy.

I am using the Moto RAZR V3 on my AT&T plan and Text Messaging, MMS, and Wireless Internet work fine after I configured the phone, so I expect that it will work for the V551.

I will only switch to a Cingular plan when they at least match the type of plan that I have with AT&T.

I wouldn't plan on cingular ever matching your current attws plan. It just won't happen... Maybe once you've been with them for a while you can score some extra promotional minutes, but definitely not right off the bat.

With the V551 you can unlock your phone and use it on your at&t service with full compatibility.
Do a google search or go onto ebay and find a reputable person or website that has the ability to unlock Motorola gsm phones. After you complete this, go to www.attwireles.com/support to setup your mms, mMode. i've done it, so i know it works. I don't meen to dis "cingularactmgr", but cingular employees are trained to exactly what he did. There are a lot of advantages to switching to cingular: - customer care, rollover, and the MtM area, you just need to figure out if it is worth it to you. Cheers.

We returned the phone and went to another store and this V551 did not have a subsidy lock on it, so it works.

The reason why we are not going to switch to Cingular is that my current plan gives me 150 minutes per month more than any cingular plan, plus, Cingular charges an extra $10 per month for the extra phone and an extra $10 for Mobile to Mobile minuntes.

Since we use all of out minutes per month, rollover minutes is not appealing to me.

Cingular needs to do better with their plans.
