Release date???

Anybody have any info on when this phone might be released??? 😁

I am anxious for a new phone now that I decided to NOT purchase a V710 after that fiasco... 😕

FYI, 473 pages of complaints about that phone & still rising in the Phonescoop forum. That has to be a record!!! (and not a good one at that!) 😉

I'm waiting, too. I need a bluetooth phone, with EDGE, that I can use overseas. This is the only phone I'm aware of with these specs. Need it for an overseas assignment I've got starting October 20th, so I hope the phone is released before then. Like to see a deal for $150 or less AR with contract, too.

I stopped by the Cingular store on the way home tonite & spoke with two very nice, if somewhat less than informed salespeople.

They had both heard of the V551 & RAZR V3. They said they were hoping to get the V551 in next Friday, Sept. 17th and the RAZR V3 at the beginning of Oct.

The good news is that the release dates are probably not too far off if it has gotten that far down the chain of command that even the "less than knowledgeable" salespeople have heard of it...

Just calling it like I see it. 😁

So I went down to the closest cingular store and they said not for a month or so. But said that they were having a contest on phone sales of that phone ( i believe that phone) and the prize is the V551. The contest doesn't start till OCT. I also asked him about the new TReo 650 and he had no clue that it existed and that the only thing he knew about was the new version with out the camera. So I don't astually think this guy knows to much on exact release date. I also stopped on my way back at a reseller store and they didn't know anything they actually were tring to sell me the v600

Wouldn't Motorola send out an email if you signed up for product information and specifically for that product?

Maybe. I didn't sign up for the product update for this phone... I did for the RAZR V3 but have yet to hear anything from them regarding that phone.

From everything I heard, this and the V3 will be out about the same time, which, if we hear anything about the AT&T buyout being approved, will be released in the wake of that. No word has yet filtered down on the price of the phone. I've heard the LG L1400 (currently internet-only) will be in the warehouse on the seventeenth.

Well, the V505 just showed up on AT&T website to replace AT&T offering of the V600. Seems the V551 can't be far behind ...

FREE,

The phone comes unlocked from motorola, and at least the Cingular branded version will unlocked too (like V400 and V600). My motorola rep came to see us at my store a few weeks ago and I was able to play with one....very nice.

Cingular has a lot of V400's to sell first before we will pick that up. The Moto rep quoted mid October for the Dallas market. As for the FCC ID, you are right, it is not listed yet. Moto has a lot of phones coming for Cingular by the end of the year. Not only the V551, but the V180, A630, MPx 220, and the RAZR.

😲 So are you saying that the 551 will not be out till mid Oct. or at the end of the year? I think cingular better get this phone on the shelf fast or loose customers or potential customers. Besides the v400 isn't even comparable to the 551 ~Drew

whoa dude...the masses don't care about the newest, latest, greatest phones. And sadly the masses make up the biggest portion of our customers. I don't think we're really gonna lose too many customers over a phone not being released RIGHT when it's announced.

Don't get me wrong, there are some models I've been waiting on, and I'll be happy to see them drop. I've liked what T-mobile has done lately and announced phones as they were released, but the fact is that's not the industry norm. Think of it this way...the longer they have it in final development, the better it'll be when it finally hits the stores.

I'm hearing eveyone say the phone will be out soon, but it has no fcc id. The phone can't be released witout fcc authorization so i'm wondering what is going on there?

you're right, a phone can't be sold without FCC authorization. BUT as long as the carrier and manufacturer are on the same page with everything, the phone could be in stock and ready and hit the shelves almost as soon as the FCC approves it. All that would have to happen is to have the phone ready to sell, wait for approval, and then as soon as it drops send out the notice to sell em.

As for Cingular disallowing T-Mobile from thier network.....HIGHLY unlikely. Cingular gets money from roaming agreements with T-Mobile, and likewise uses T-Mo's network for roaming in areas where thier own 850mHz coverage is weak. To end that relationship just because they have some new towers just isn't profitable for anyone.
