I'm in the same boat. I have the RAZR and my wife has the v551. I'm having trouble deciding whether to keep the RAZR or get the v551.

RAZR advantages:
- lighter and thinner
- slightly larger screen
- "cooler"
- better sound quality?

v551 advantages:
- better camera (RAZR awful)
- easier to press the keys
- EDGE is faster (more below)
- cheaper

Very similar:
- reception
- battery life

I ran data transfer speed tests. Using the built-in browser and email clients in the phones, they performed the same, probably because latency dominates. Then I ran some tests using both phones as modems for my laptop. The v551 was about 50% faster, even though the specs state 3 times faster.

Moving on to the subjective level, I lik...

Thanks. I am changing service providers and those are the two phones I am interested in. Your comparison is helpful info toward making a decision.
Although both phones seem to be just fine, neither is what I really want. That makes it harder to decide which one to settle for. I think it's going to be the less expensive phone of the two and use the difference in price to pay for a bluetooth headset and one year agreement. Maybe there will actually be a clam shell Windows Smartphone available by this time next year.
Best regards.

I agree, with the new v3x coming out, I can't wait for the phone, but I can wait in regards to its price. I'll just have to wait until the new v3x goes down in price, just like the RAZR (somewhat).

I was in the same boat with the RAZR, I bought a black one off of a friend, in brand new condition but I noticed that it basically has all the features that the v551 has. The RAZR camera is just horrible. The v551 camera was much better.

The other thing that I don't like about the RAZR is the volume keys while talking on the phone itself. It seems that I have to hold the phone with one hand and use my other to increase the volume. This is because of the volume keys being so slim and on the upper part of the phone when it's flipped open....

Excellent Comparison demosthenes. your inputs really helped me a lot to go for V551 as this has Minimal advantage over V3:
1) Headset jack (though not much useful if you use Bluetooth)
2) Push to Talk (might be for future Use)

The V551 is not going to be a Push To Talk handset. You will have to purchase a PTT handset to use that feature.

Interestingly, I have the v551 and my daughter has a black Razr v3, both from Cingular, and her camera takes better looking pics than mine... I'm actually considering upgrading to the Razr because of that, as well as the cool sleek look of the phone.

re: battery life- My daughter's Razr tends to run down the battery much faster than my phone, but she also txt msgs much more than me which could account for that difference. I can go 2-3 days on the road without the battery dying but her phone will die overnight if it is not charged.

Just my 2cents worth...

V551 IS BETTER BUT THE RAZR HAS A BETTER SCREEN QUALITY. BUY THE WAY OUR RAZR DOESN'T HAVE EDGE BUT THE V551 DOES SO U DECIDE.
