Bluetooth File Transfer?

OK, so I got the v551 today and am overall very happy with it. But I'm having trouble with the file transfer with Bluetooth. I can send address entries and photos to my iBook and my husband's Sony Ericsson with Bluetooth, but I can't receive files from either one.

Do any of you who have this phone or who have had other Motorola Bluetooth phones know a way around this problem?

Thanks!

No....what specifically are you trying to do? I don't have any problems transferring phonebook entries, ringtones, and pics from phone to phone. (Haven't tried with my TiBook because I need to get the Bluetooth adapter)

I've tried receiving photos and phone book entries from my husband's phone via Bluetooth, and his phone just endlessly says "Connecting" when he tries to send me something. I can send things to him with no problem. The same thing happens with my iBook (I can send but can't receive). I'm pretty sure the problem lies with my phone because his works with his iBook and mine doesn't.

We both looked several times through all the connection settings last night, but there's not much to the Bluetooth options. The manual was no help.

Thanks for your response.

Ok...I think I can figure this out. When you send a file with bluetooth, the phone "temporarily" turns on the bl...

Assuming you're using iSync to manage your files, NONE of Motorola's cell phones are compatible via Bluetooth. You'll have to purchase a USB cable to physically connect the phone to your Mac in order for iSync to work:

(I don't know if this is a Moto or Apple issue) ...

Even then, the 551 may or may not work -- it isn't listed...

I'm not using iSync -- just trying to use Bluetooth File Transfer to browse my phone or send files to my phone. This works fine with my iBook and my husband's Sony Ericsson phone. And like I said, basically the same thing occurs when I try to recieve anything from his phone as when I try to receive anything from my iBook.

I called Motorola, and they said it sounds like a frequency problem, and the guy thought the 551 might be using Bluetooth 1.2. I ordered another USB bluetooth adapter that uses 1.2 to see if it makes a difference. I'll let you know.

The new USB Bluetooth adapter worked! It's an Anycom Bluetooth 1.2 ready adapter. Now from my iBook I can use Blutooth File Exchange to browse my phone and send and receive files in both directions.

Oh, and on an unrelated note, after not even having my phone for a week yet, I dropped it down a marble staircase onto the sidewalk today. The rubber got a little scratched but it still works great. So I can now say that this is a very durable phone 🙂

Excellent! Thanks for the update! 😎

I'm still wondering if the hard connection works with iSync. Xferring files is cool, but the ability to synch the address book/contacts is the deal-maker for me =)

Anyways, congrats on getting things to work! It looks like a great phone!

Oh, BTW and a little off-topic: does the 551 have status lights on it? I haven't been able to hold one in my hand yet and the photos of it I've seen are unclear on that ...

Cheers!
