😢 .. I know you guy's are still gumdrops and sunshines..but that's all about to end... Even though Phonescoop says that the A780 is due out 1st quarter 2005? how can that be? If taiwan just got the phone a couple of days ago?

Also If you notice..on the moto website..they are no longer showing any info..or release info ..AT ALL about the a780!.. so I think that's a sign.. If anything I think this phone will be out around may or june!Hopefully I'm wrong take alook for yourslves on the hellomoto.com site..Any comments are welcome! 🙂

Yes. One of the Motorola staff on their stand at CES admitted that they had not got a carrier to commit to this product.

I've been eyeing this phone for a while now. Aside from the discount carriers provide if you sign up for x-number of years, what difference will it make if a carrier "commits" to the A780? Especially since it looks like the phone is availible via other channels (www.cellularconcepts.com, among others).

Usually after a carrier gets the phone the price will drop, cause people will unlock them and sell them cheaper than a factory unlocked one. Also the number of them available on the market increases causing the price to go down.

Just looked on eBay and it seems the cheapest they are going for is $720 CAD...

It still shows up on the 'MotoNext' page at http://commerce.motorola.com/consumer/QWhtml/ motonext_products.html

Where did it used to be that it no longer is?

Hey, I just talked to a Motorola rep over the phone - according to them, the phone is still coming to the U.S. The rep I talked to said it should be here "at any moment"! 😁

Just thought I'd share the info...I think I might just wait then, instead of buying from one of those eshops that either have no return policy or 25% restocking fees! Anyway, keep ur fingers crossed!!

I'd love to know who you spoke to. I called Motorola myself a couple of weeks ago (1-866-BUY-MOTO). After waiting on the phone for about 5 - 10 minutes, I was connected to a help desk/sales drone who could barely speak english. I asked her if/when the A780 would be officially released in the US and all she could say is that she wasn't allowed to comment on unreleased phones. She didn't come off as particularly knowledgeable. (She had to talk to her manager to answer that question.) Instead of pressing the issue, I just thanked her and hung up.

After that, I called Cingular (IMO, they're more likely to carry it than T-Mobile). I got a help desk guy who wasn't familiar with the phone, but seemed technically savvy. When I asked him about the...

The woman I talked to at Motorola seemed knowledgeable (sp?) and spoke English well. She knew exactly which phone I was talking about when I asked and said it will be out during 1st quarter. Also, when I asked if she was sure the phone hadn't been cancelled, she said no and that it was definately coming out in the U.S. and should be here "at any moment."

Another indicator that a phone will be released soon is that the price at sites that sell new, unlocked phones begins to drop, which has been the case. In the past 2 weeks alone, the phone price has dropped by over $100 at mobilebee.com from $799. I first saw it there for about $899 near the end of Dec, but now its at $699. Same thing happened at plemix.com - the phone is now $628 there.

Should support English and Chinese from the factory. Check your language settings in the settings icon.
