Audiovox SMT 5600 or the V3?

😕 I haven't had a cellphone since the late 90's, so every phone is cool to me. That said, I have the Audiovox SMT 5600 Smartphone and love the user interface/functions, but have anticipated the Razr.

Problem? I have gotten accustomed to the Windows Mobile interface and have heard that the V3 falls short by comparison. But the V3 is a quad band with a great speakerphone. I am so torn.

What will I lose by passing on a smartphone in favor of a V3, which one salesperson called "a regular phone in an attractive shell?" What would you do? I'm leaning toward waiting for the next generation of the Razr...even if that's a long time from now ☚ī¸

Any feedback is appreciated.

Temp,

Y'know, I was worried about that. The V3 is a 1st generation. I've already heard a runor right here on Phone Scoop that there may be a smartphone version of the V3 (Razrberry) by mid 2005. I think I'll wait. Thanks 🙂

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO no motorola is worth the plastic they are made out of (or magnesium/aluminum/glass in this case)

Whomever told you that the V3 is just a regular phone with an attractive case... is absolutely 100% correct.

The interface is almost identical to all of the V-model phones. The V3 only offers a couple more features, but really it is only different physically. Not worth it at all to me personally for a phone that is $500-$800. And on top of it, Motorola's track record with cell phones just isn't good enough to substantiate an expenditure like that, especially for "really neat-looking" phone.

I feel your pain. Fed up with the MPx200, I got a "normal" cell phone and after a week or two without my Windows Mobile, I was dying. Luckily the SMT 5600 came out as I was beginning my withdrawal so I picked it up. A month later, I am so happy with this phone. Possibly the only thing that could make it better is if it were a clamshell. I listen to music, read eBooks, use maps, surf the net, send email, keep my calendanr...oh and I also talk on my 5600. Couldn't be happier.

kwbarrett jr,

That's my issue too. I am not impressed with the SMT's design, but I love my Windows Mobile OS.

I have been waiting on getting an hp6315 but after reading nothing but bad things the 5600 fits the bill for most everything I need. It actually comes with a great case. All of the moto startac's used to come with a holster then I got a V600 and every holster I could find was a piece of crap. I was co impressed with the 5600 I paid full retail at AT&T then paid $38 to have it unlocked and I am now using it with Cingular. The only thing I wish I could get it to do is to record phone coversations. Good Phone !!!!!!!!!!!!!

😁 I went to a store that has the Razr activated. What a joke!

The Audiovox may not have an attractve clamshell, but 'er uh, it's a much better "functional" phone in my opinion and the opinion of several AT&T/Cingular employees.

I went through a few menus and on the web with the V3. It just doesn't measure up to the Audiovox. I'll keep my Audiovox and when the smartphone Razr comes out next year, I'll get it then.

🙂 After being certain that getting the V3 on a trial basis would not sway me from the Audiovox...I was wrong. It cast its spell on me and I can't fathom not keeping it.

đŸ˜ĸ Yes, I'll miss the Windows OS and IE on my Audiovox. If I could afford to I'd keep both. But as is, I'm going with the V3 and rumor has it the V3 will have a smartphone version next year anyway. 😉
