MP3 with Album Art in WMP10?

This is probably a general Windows Media Player 10 (WMP10) for Smartphone question, but since the Audiovox 5600 is the first Smartphone with this player, and it happens to be the phone I have, I'll ask here...

I have MP3 files on my PC that, according to WMP10 on the PC, have embedded album art. I have used WMP10's "Sync" feature to copy over the files to the Audiovox. While the files play fine on the Audiovox, the album art does not appear. All descriptions of WMP10 for Smartphone indicate that it is capable of this feature, but I can't seem to get the album art to show up.

Any help/advise?

I dont't own this phone (yet) but I may have some insight into your album art problem. WMP uses album art in different ways. The question I have for you is...Are you letting WMP manage and update your music files? Most media players out there will read an image file (folder.jpg) for the album art. Microsoft within WMP will read the file (folder.jpg) but for special features like the new bliss visualization in WMP 10 and possibly syncing the album artto this phone you have to let WMP have access to you collection. With this setting enabled, WMP will automatically update your mp3 tags and add the album art (in microsoft's format, which is a series of 3 different sizes image files that are hidden). You'll want to be carefull before you choose ...

Hmmmm, mine is working just fine. I see all the album covers that WMP10 has on my PC. Do keep in mind that the database that WPM uses (AMG) does not have EVERY album there is. For example, I have a number of imported CDs (all different kinds of music) where WPM either gives me the wrong cover or no cover at all. In the case of no cover, it usually doesn't even identify the tracks correctly.

Generally, if WPM10 on your PC can show you the album cover correctly, then it should show up on the phone. Like I said, for the songs/albums that WPM10 gets right, I see the covers just fine on my phone. It's that "getting the covers right on the PC" that seems to be the distinction for my phone.

Do you have "Update my music files by retrieving media information from the Internet" Selected?

The reason that I ask is that while using the New Bliss Visualization (The one with the moving clouds) it does not show my album art (Within Bliss) but it does show up in the "Show Media Information" box in the lower right hand corner of WMP 10. The album that I am listening to was ripped with another program and uses "folder.jpeg"for the album art. The new Bliss visualization must use M$'s own image scheme that is downloaded from the internet automatically if the previously mentioed option is selected. What I am trying to figure out is does the Audiovox read the folder.jpeg or do you have to let WMP 10 automatically update your fil...

I presume you are referring to the PC version (as opposed to the Phone version) and the Privacy tab in the Options dialog box to be specific. If that is the case, yes I do have "Update my music files..." checked.

Additionally, I also have "Enable picture support for devices" checked as well (located on the Player tab on the PC version).

Okay, on the PC I don't have this option checked and I am not getting the album art info. It looks like you have to let WMP 10 control your collection to be able to see album art on the phone and other devices.

I have a question about syncing. I can copy files over directly in ActiveSync, but if I try to use WMP10 it won't let me select My Documents and says that nothing will fit, even though it will. Am I doing something wrong here?

If you do not have a MiniSD card in your phone, this is what your phone and MP10 will tell you. Once you add this memory card to your phone, this will work just fine. It is important to point out that the SMT5600 phone does not come with a memory card. You will need to buy one from a retailer (local or web). Best Buy carries the MiniSD format for certain. CompUSA does not (though some stores may have them anyway).
