Ok, after a reasonably solid day of nominal use, the phone has held up well. Battery life is wonderful so far, but it will be months before I know how well the battery REALLY holds out. Still, it's promising.
I have found what I think are the first two annoyances with the phone. Will have to keep searching to see if perhaps I just missed a feature configuration or not.
Annoyance #1: Phone does not ring through to wireless (BT) headsets. If you have an incoming call, or even just pressing the keypad and hearing the standard keypress tones, they all come through the phone's main speaker. Even with your BT headset on, the call rings on the phone, not on the headset. You can answer with your headset (see annoyance #2 for more on this), but...

You do not need a minisd card to take advantage of WMP, technically. Placed a .wma in /Storage/My Documents/My Music and open it in file explorer. Wallah! I even used .wma for my ringtone (Ozzy - Crazy Train). Now the storage is limited without memory explansion. Anyone found a good dealer of the miniSD 512mb?

This is true. If you want to move the files manually (explore the phone, open the folders, etc.). However, if you want to do your music management through Windows Media Player, that will ONLY allow files to be put on the MiniSD card, not in the main phone's memory.

.WMA is the default audio format for Windows Media Player (the one you run from your PC). Just pop in a CD into your computer and download ANYTHING from it ("copy to library" in version 9 and earlier, or "Rip" in version 10) and that will save your selected tracks as .WMA files. WMA stands for Windows Media Audio. WMV is Windows Media Video. For best results with the SMT 5600, be sure to upgrade your PC's Windows Media Player to version 10. It's actually a much better player than 9.

Ok, the ringtone portion is a little less clear cut. Here is what you have to do:
1] Connect your phone to your PC.
2] When the ActiveSync window pops up and finishes synchronizing your phone with Outlook, press the Explore button in the button bar on the ActiveSync window (between the Details button and the Options button). This will open up a standard File Explorer window pointed at your cell phone (as opposed to a drive letter or directory like usual).
3] Double-click on My Smartphone.
4] Double-click on Storage (not Storage Card).
5] Double-click on Application Data.
6] Double-click on Sounds.
You are now in the folder where you can put ringtones. Anything you drop in here can be used as a ringtone.

Is the windows media player on this phone made just for this phone? I also have a SE P800 that I like a lot better, is it possible to download the media player on my p800?

I think I found the answer is no, because it is not windows based. but would you happened to know how I can get an mp3 song to play as my ringtone on my p800? it will play mp3 sonys, they are just not in the foler for the ringtones, just like this phone. I am trying to figure you how to move them to that folder.

The Media Player on this phone is not unique to this phone. This happens to be the first phone to get it, but any new Windows Smartphone with Mobile 2003 Second Edition will have this player on it.
The OS for the SE 800/900/910 devices is not compatible with this media player, so you cannot put this player on the SE. There may be a player on the SE that can play WMA files, but I cannot be certain of that. You can look for software like that at:

How's the earpiece and speakerphone volume on this phone?!?
Reports on the Motorola MPX220 forum say the volume on both are way too low. I have a Nokia 7210 - speaker is nice and loud. I also have a MPX200 - speaker's loud for ringtones, but really low on phone calls.

After using both the MPX220 and the Audiovox, I complete concur that the MPX's volume (both through the earpiece and via the speakerphone) is way too low. The volume on the Audiovox is very nice. Of course, YMMV.

So far, I think the ringer is plenty loud on the normal profile, and in a reasonably noisy environment (busy restaurant, shopping mall) the outdoor can be heard quite well. Now if you're at a construction site, don't even bother. But that's an extreme.
My wife says that I sound a bit quieter when I call her using this phone versus my Nokia, but still clear enough to hear quite well.

I'm seriously thinking of purchasing this phone. I'm concerned though about the statement that I need Media Player 10 on my PC. MP-10 requires Win XP whereas I am Win 98SE with no plans to upgrade to XP. (I'm nowhwere near that masochistic.)

It was strictly enthusiasm for MP 10. You can use MP 9 with the phone as well, though I was not able to successfully get album art for a few albums to work, though it was not consistent as to what worked and what didn't. However music made it across just fine.
Just remember that you should also have a MiniSD memory card in the phone as well for real successin moving music and videos to the phone.
