You can use anything Windows Media Player can download to the phone. That means not just MP3s, but .WMAs as well as .WAV and a few other formats.

As I write this, I am unable to use Media Player to download ANYTHING to my phone, however from what I am reading on Microsoft's web site, the phone needs to have a MiniSD memory card installed before any music can be downloaded. The phone does not come with one. While I am not fond of the decision not to put a memory card in with the phone (like Nokia does with all their phones), there is an up side: Nokia always puts in these really small, really worthless-sized cards. At least with this phone, I don't have a useless 8mb or 16mb card that would hold 1 or 2 songs.

I will get a MiniSD card t...

As far as I can tell, no it cannot. As I had posted in one of my earlier posts, for some reason I cannot get the phone to push audio to the BT headset with the exception of a call in progress. When a BT headset is connected, the only time it is used is when a call is connected. Everything else, from DMTF tones (the sounds you hear when you press phone buttons to dial a number) to clicks generated from the user interface all are sent to the phone's local speaker.

Interestingly enough, those same tones are pushed to a wired headset when that is plugged in. Just not the BT headset.

I don't know about this fan pricing, but online you can get the phone for 150 with new service, not sure if that helps you at all.

$150 is not entirely accurate. I questioned them (AT&T) about it. That is the final price (more or less), but it's not what it looks like.

If you buy it online, the phone still costs $199 direct from AT&T. They have this great little ad on their web site that offers an additional $50 off if you buy the phone on-line. However, regardless of how INSTANT the little blip SAYS it is, it is not INSTANT in any way. I have my invoice in front of me and it was not deducted.

When I saw this, I called AT&T and what they told me is that the $50 is taken off of my next bill. I told them how that directly contradicts the words "Take an extra $50 at checkout", but the person I spoke to didn't know anything about that and generally played dumb. Still ...

To pair your BT headset, you generally need to put the headset in pairing mode. Once that is done, you do the following from the phone:

Press
Press (More...)
Press (Settings)
Press (Bluetooth)
Press (Bluetooth)
Make sure BT is on. If not, turn it on now.
Press
Press (Devices)
Press
Press (New)

The phone will start searching for new BT devices. If your headset is (still) in pairing mode, it should find it in 30 seconds or less. Once it finds it, press .

Now enter the pairing code (check with your headset manual) and press .

Now you can select the default BT device name as shown (usually provided by the headset) or you can give it another name if you like. I usually just leave it as is. Now press .

The phone a...

BestBuy has them for sure (that's where I got mine. If you're near a Fry's they have them as well. CompUSA doesn't carry them (I checked) and Costco doesn't have them yet either. Some Digital Camera stores will have them as well, but they'll cost a fortune there.

The one I got was a 128mb (it was all they had) and it was $35.00. If I were more patient and wanted to order one online, I could have gotten a 256mb for $45.00. I was just impatient to see if it worked. Now that I know that it works (and works well) I'll get a couple of 512mb ones later on.

Yes. This is what I was talking about in Update #2. The headset will work when the call is actually in progress. At all other times, however, the phone sends all sounds to it's own speaker--even when it knows the BT headset is connected. While this is a minor annoyance, I hope they fix it quickly!

After using this phone with a BT headset for about a week, I have noticed two things; one good, one bad:

good: If the call is in progress and you turn on a paired BT headset (earbud, etc.), the call immediately transfers to the headset upon headset connection to the phone. Very cool if you answer with the handset but then turn on your headset to take the rest of the call- you don't have to manually transfer the call to the headset.

bad: If the keypad is locked (to prevent accidental keypress), then you can answer a call with a BT headset's pushbutton, but cannot initiate a call. In other words - lock the keypad and put the phone in a bag. Wear a BT earbud. The phone rings and you simply push the headset's button to answer the cal...

You have characterized the keypad lock feature perfectly. When the phone is locked, it's locked. You can't even POWER IT OFF unless you unlock it (or remove the battery🙂). I would call the inability to voice dail from the headset when the phone is locked "unfortunate but understandable". Not sure I'd go so far as to qualify it as "bad", however that's just semantics.

The part about transferring current calls from the handset to the headset by turning on the BT headset is true of most BT-enabled phones and BT headsets...when they work at all. That worked in my Nokia 3650...when my Nokia 3650 was doing the right thing with Bluetooth in the first place (which was not as often as I'd like, which is why I am glad to have this phone now!).

You know...one of the things that really got to be was the fact that you could not voice dial from the headset. I bought a mpx220 a couple days ago from best buy and now I have the audiovox SMT5600. Im comparing the two to see which I would want more. Im still undecided, though Im leaning toward the SMT. mainly on looks and lack of headset voice dialing. Here are the key differences that I noticed.

My impressions (comparison):
1) I dont mind the candybar (though I prefer clamshell) because it also has such a nice screen with it. However, as time goes on and on, Im missing my clamshell more and more. I think its easier to push buttons and all that stuff from a cmalshell than a candybar because of button placement. Still..the big s...

System munged my text (I used angle brackets instead of square ones--my bad). That sequence should read:

Press [1]
If the phone's Bluetoot is turned off, turn it on now.
Press [Menu]
Press [1]
Press [Menu]

The phone will start...press [Select].

Now enter the...press [Done].

Now you can...press [Done].

The phone asks...press [Yes].

The phone tells...press [OK].

Press [Home] or [End Call] to return to the home screen (or you can press [Done] several hundred times).
