I too am wondering about this, and I have a further question. I thought the whole idea about GSM phones is that they are not tied to any particular mobile operator. But Cingular warned me that if I buy a phone (like this L1400) from an outside vendor, it must have the Cingular name on it to properly access a Cingular or ATT tower. How can this be true? I travel overseas where you buy any GSM phone and it automatically works with whatever operator's SIM card you put into it. Can somebody explain why the same isn't true here?

Trying the SIM from the LG1400 in my Motorola T722i gave me a prompt for a password and nothing else.
