Latest VZW Pricing $399 2 yr Agmt

I'm surprised that no one picked up on the latest VZW pricing in this forum.

VZW has reduced the price of the phone from $549 to $399 (with a 2 year agreement). It's not reflected on their web site yet, but if you go to one of their stores, they can look it up on the internal pricing matrix.

I just bought one yesterday at the $399 price.

I'm also curious to see if any of you are offered the 660 at $349. Someone in another forum made that claim, but my VZW store said the price is $399.

Checked this.

Go to the above link and see that it's reflected online. But Verizon does not say that. Sprint is way behind Verizon in Customer service.

I don't know if you guys have seen the latest TV spots for the Treo650 and the XV6600 but they state the price is currently $299.99 with 2yr for both. They started running on last Friday showing the Treo650 at the price and then on Wednesday the same spot but at the end they show the XV6600 at the same price. Watched it last night but there is no mention on the website, and I had to show the owner of the local verizon shop the commercial for him to believe me. He thinks that the price change will come down the line of the 19th as that is when they change prices and promos next. How is that for choice.

Maybe that $299.99 price is with the $100 discount for a new every 2 VZW customer. That was my price as well.

If the regular price is $299, I'd be getting the phone for $199 after the discount - a pretty good price.

Thanks for the info on the promo date though, I'll keep watching (I'm still within the 15 day window).

Oh! is it so... That will be a great price. But then again, if the instrument has so many defects will it be worth going for...after all we will then be stuck with the 2 year warranty....
Any opinions?

Here are the major defects that I see with the 6600:

1) Ring tones that are not loud enough - You may be able to tinker with this, but the ring tones will never approach standard cell phone quality.
2) Low sound quality when using the 6600 by itself or the stereo headset. You may be able to get around this with a separate headset with volume control.
3) Poor batter life.

In short, the device is a bad phone.

On the plus side, it's a good PDA. I especially like to WAN connectivity, the built-in keyboard, and the large screen. It can also act as a USB modem for your laptop.

You have to decide what's important to you. The Samsung i730 may be a good alternative, but it's relatively new and rumor has it that Verizon disabled DUN amon...

Many of the volume issues have software fixes.

The battery life for the i730 standard battery is reported to be about the same, but the i730 have an optional extended life battery that almost doubled the times.

The i730 will sell for over $600 WITH a two year contract.

The biggest things that are probably driving down the XV6600's price are:

1) Competition. Sprint AND Verizon are selling them as their premier phone

2) The XV 6600 ia already obsolete. Microsoft released their new Mobile 5 OS last month, and the XV6600 can't use it. Mobile 5 allows much better one handed phone use and better data protection against power losses, etc.

I am almost positive that the $299 price was with an unlimited data plan added on when the phone is purchased similar to the Treo deal. I would then assume that if you are up for a NE2 you could get the phone for $199 after all is said and done. Not sure how long the data plan needs to be on the bill though but if you are going to use the phone as a modem then you would want the unlimited plan anyways.

I saw a VZW ad on CNN that offered the 6600 for $299 - but there was a lot of fine print that I couldn't read quickly enough. The VZW web site still has the $549 price. Will check with the NJ stores in my location.

Doe this include EV-DO access or it's extra?

EVDO is a service you pay for monthly, like you cell phone. It adds about $45 to your monthly cell bill.
