Setting up DUN

I have attempted several times to set up DUN so my laptop can access the Internet using a Bluetooth connection with the 6600 with no success. The phone will recognize the PC's request and I acknowledge the access, but it never connects through.

Can anyone offer suggestions or a link to specific instructions? I am using VZW

You didn't mention the bluetooth support that you have in the laptop. I'm assuming you have something akin to WIDCOMM (DLink, Belkin, etc.). This is another nightmarish area of BT incompatibility.

This is what worked for me using a DLink adapter.

1) Find the DUN entry for Bluetooth. In XP, it's in Settings->Control Panel->Network Connections. Double click on it.

2) For the phone # field, enter #777.

3) For the user ID, enter @vzw3g.com -e.g. 2015551212@vzw3g.com

4) For the password, put vzw.

5) Now attempt to connect. Your device should flash a message saying that another bluetooth device is attempting to connect. Once you grant it access, it will display another message if the DUN session is successfuly established.

Let...

Still no joy. I have DUN set up in XP and when I initiate it I do get the ack message on the phone, I accept and XP says it's dialing, but it just sits for about a minute and then errors out. No further messages or actions on the phone and no details from XP other than the modem is not responding.

Do you have further suggestions?

Thanks.

I also experienced a hang the first time I used DUN. I can't definitively tell you what solved this particular problem (there are lots of problems that I had with BT services in general). But, here's one more thing you can do:
1) First, ensure that you're connected to DUN services on the 6600 (you should browse for devices, re-discover the services on the 6600 again to be sure and then connect to DUN).
2) Now, go into XP's Control Panel->Phone and Modem Options - > Modems -> Bluetooth Modem -> Properties.
3) In the Bluetooth Modem Properties dialog, go into the Diagnostics tab and click on the button that's labeled Query Modem.

If XP's successfully queries the modem, go back and try your DUN entry (making sure it's using the Bluetooth ...

We're getting closer. The modem will respond to a query (when I couldn't get it to previously). Of several attempts only one appeared as if the phone was actually trying to connect to the VZW network. I am running Goodlink software on this device and I believe that it has some serious issues with the BT software. I did a soft reset and tried the DUN connection again prior to the Good software loading and it still failed to connect.

Thanks for your help anyway.

If you're still having this problem, there is one more important thing you should try:

Make sure that you 6600 is not cradled - Better yet, soft reset and connect for DUN right after the 6600 resets.

This worked for me on a new unit I just got. It just doesn't work when it's cradled presumably because of routing issues.

I have been trying all my attemps not cradled, but still no success. I've about decided to scrap the notion of doing it. It also bummed me that Audiovox is NOT going to provide an upgrade to Mobile 5 for this device (which would problably have solved the issue and the NUMEROUS other ones I am having).

Thanks for your time.

Where did you hear about the lack of upgrade path to WM5?

Also, you might want to check your ROM versions versus the ones listed on pdaphonehome.com forums - maybe you have an older ROM.

I just started using a second 6600 and after the initial cradle issue, it worked fine.

Straight from a tech at Audiovox. They said no upgrade for anything in that "platform".

I will check on ROM versions, but I 'think' I am up to date.

Thanks, that's a real bummer, yet another PocketPC disposable device.

One last thing to try with DUN. This is the exact sequence that worked for me:

1) Turn flight mode ON, this will shutdown both cell and bluetooth.
2) Enable bluetooth only.
3) Soft reset the 6600
4) As soon as the 6600 esets, establish a DUN session but don't actually connect yet. [This just sets up the bluetooth between your laptop/desktop and the 6600.]
5) Re-enable your cell access
6) Attempt to connect to the network using DUN.

If this doesn't work, you might want to get VZW techs involved at your local store. Maybe it's a defect with the phone.
