Hooray! the official Siemens ROM update for the SX66 is here: http://communications.siemens.com/cds/frontdo or/0,2241,us_en_0_21219_rArNrNrNrN_prodId%3A7 6051,00.html#Firmware

I can finally stop holding my breath. I'm anxious to see which issues it resolves for us besides Bluetooth. It is a big file.

A couple of things to note if installing:

1 Make sure that all antivirus and firewall software is disabled.

2. Make sure the SX66 is connected directly to the computer and not through a hub.

I had norton enabled and it hosed up the install. Luckly I had only deleted the rom and not started the install. Rebooting solved the problem and the rest of the install went nomally.

Siemens tech people did not get an advance notice to review the installation process. They only saw the information as it was placed on the web site. They are experiencing a learning curve that may not be as helpful as needed but are trying to be as helpful as they can be.

did you ahve a status bar when the update was taking place. when the process first started the device shut down and active sync closed. theres' a box on my deesktop that says do not turn off the devcice or disconnect from cradle. been like that for about ten minutes.

It took just about 15 mins for me. Most of the time the screens stayed the same. If it didn't go through for you yet, follow the instructions from the Siemens website where you got the update and do it again.

There were a few on some other forums who had it freeze up and they had to re-do it. After that, it went fine.

After you're done, re-add any of the categories you put in for the Outlook files on the sx66 BEFORE you sync. That way your contacts, etc will go in the right categories. Re-sync, and it will make you give it a new name.

Then in activesync go to tools, add/remove programs. All the programs I had installed were listed there. I just checked the boxes and they re-installed.

Then I opened the desktop my documents sync...

The initial splash screen went away and the dialog box stating that a review of the SX66 was in progress and not to stop the update. This did not change for 45 minutes. At that time I call Siemens and they gave the additional information about the Antivirus and firewall software should be disabled. If I had taken the time to think about it, I would have realized that they could interfere with the update.

After rebooting the system with the Antivirus and windows firewall software disabled, I restarted the update and it was completed in about 20 minutes.

Unfortunatly I had to reinstall Norton and repair Microsoft Office 2003 for the desktop to be back to normal and ActiveSync to update from Office.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for letting us know about the update! Downloaded the file and everything is working great with only a few minor reinstalls afterwards. Bluetooth seems to work fine now too. Thanks!

So no one has yet mentioned what the update included. I'm not sure if the bt stack was updated, based upon the "about" info in "connections" but reception seems to be better with it.

Can someone comment on what the improvements were?

Noticed Updates

Biggest improvement is, I've noticed that my bluetoogh phone headset does not lose connection (it was loosing connection after about fifteen minutes and I would have to resync the headset with the device, probably avoid a traffic accident now). Additionally, I've noticed my active sync working much better and smoother (with my device in the cradle, connected to my pc via the USB, my active sync was not syncing all of my info. only about 95%, mainly my internet "favorites"). Lastly I've noticed a slight change/improvement with setting "new appointments" in my Calendar.

Patch worked great for me. i had a work around that was great for a while but this update is well worth it. the BT works perfectly. and performance is better. haven't see better coverage yet just about the same i'll keep testing. i don't see what your talking about with the appointments being changed. what are u talking about? Great phone and great Software :-) time for me to rewrite the review.
This phone is a perfect 10 out of 10.
