SX66: can I use it to surf the net w/o a data plan on my minutes?

Can I use the sx66 to surf the net w/o a data plan on my minutes? The local Cingular store is telling me I HAVE to get this $59.00 a month PDA plan to even buy the phone! Sounds like total BS. I would rather not have any data plan (even the Media works) and just use my minutes to surf the net on Cingular's network (not WIFI)

With Verizon and the VX6600, I can surf the net useing my minutes only, no data plan. Can I do that with this phone?

As far as I know, you at least need the MediaNet. It's different from Verizon. But $59 is wrong, I am paying $20/month for unlimited. With Verizon, it's not unlimited, because you're using your minutes....

ceoshawn:

I just got my SX66 a couple of days ago. I got the $40 plan. Can I get the $20 plan you guys are talking about or do I have to have the $40 MediaNet Plan? Can I get my BellSouth email with the $20 MediaPack (for that's all I care about).

Also, I'd like to know where you got the patch to fix your BT so that it connects to the BTHS even when the phone (PDA) is "off"?

Thank you.

I work for cingular and you don't need anyhting special in order to buy the phone. You can get the best and most current media package we offer by calling 611 and asking for the media works package that comes with 1500 text 250 MMS and unlimited Internet. That way you can use the GPRS cingular data network. as for using your mins. you would have to configure it to work. you need to set up i think it's called a DATA line. Instead of the normal MediaNET. (GPRS) PS don't listen to what the people in the store tell you. call Cust. service and ask us. What we say pretty much counts. Store usually make up anyhting to sell you MORE things. i have a friend who works in the store and thats what he always tells me. good luck post again if you need my ...

Thanks K-Rock XP.

I called Cingular and had my plan changed to the $20 pckage with unlimited internet, 1500 text and 250 MMS messages.

I was also able to get the Data Connection switched on for my phone so that now I can tether it to my laptop and go on line on the laptop. The Rep told me that there will be be no extra charge (or usage of minutes) by using my SX66 as a modem to access net on my laptop, since I have an unlimited internet plan. The rep also gave me a dialup number for Cingular to use.

Somehow I find it too good to be true. What do you think?

Thank you,
Atul.

The Media works is the best choice for 19.99 however you can not send emails from other ISP. You can receive emails though from any provider as long as you have pop, smtp, user id and passw. If you want to use other ISP email servers you need the PDA unlmtd for 39.99.

The MediaNet plan uses GPRS. You can use CSD to "dial" up Cingular as an ISP and it will use your minutes.

So, the answer is yes.

He's right remember i'm the cingular rep from the board :-). You just need to configure it and if you don't know how to do it theres a data support group that can help you out. Call and go through Cust service then go to tech and they should know how to set u up. Good Luck.

What do you mean don't listen to me ☚ī¸ connecting using your min doesn't require 19.99 package. thats what the person who started the thread was trying to confirm. GPRS/EDGE Network requires the 19.99 package or another package with a WIX (wireless internet Xpress) Feature code. If you just want to use your min. (CDS, something like that, i forget what it's called you just need to configure it. thats what i told the guys to do. and to do it he would need data support. so i was right and u were too but you were thinking GPRS the guy from the first post wanted a solution without having to pay for a data package.
