Default Start-up

My mother has a Sidekick Color and accidentally placed over 100 minutes of calls in the first month while learning to use the phone. She's deaf and this was her first cell phone/pager.

By default when the SK is first powered up it goes to the Cell Phone screen. Since this phone is extremely popular with people who are deaf or hearing-impaired, I would think it makes sense to allow a customer to choose a default start-up screen. I asked T-Mobile about this, since deaf people primarily use AOL's IM or the text message capability and would, therefore, prefer to begin with anything but a cell phone screen (which they can't use). T-Mobile claimed they checked with the manufacturer and the programming could not be rewritten to allow such ...

Yes, the main menu CAN be rewriten... if one knows Java you could do it yourself through the SDK package from the HipTop developer's page. However, if you can't do it yourself or find someone that can, you're out of luck.
