Battery Drain (unexpected)

For the last two days I have noted that my 2.5 wek old Razr has been feeling quite warm while both in a generic case and in my pocket...when checked it seems to have been "on" because the battery charge level shows nearly empty despite being less than a couple hours from a full charge over night.

Anyone have this kind of problem? The charger and battery are OEM so not thinking of compatibility issues. Not sure whether to return my phone and DEMAND new (not refurb) at Cingular, or whether to ASK nicely for another battery...a big reason is that I am nearling the 30 time limit for return, and another the phone is essentially unusable in it's current state?

Any possibility of a program running in the background that I need to check? A ...

Why would you want to mess around? It's not normal operation, go back and get a new phone! If they balk at all, since you're inside the 30 day window, tell 'em to keep it, go to another store, and start over!

It's likely not the phone itself, but the battery. Take the unit back and tell them you wish to have another battery for the phone.

Battery's are like a crapshoot, it is possible to have a bad one right off the bat.

Now if the second battery begins doing the same thing, then I would say it is the phone, but the indications you have point otherwise.

I agree-- the charger IC in the battery itself may be messed up (a cheap little $0.20 IC).

Try that first and don't wait any longer. Heat is bad stuff for safety.

I'm sure you guys are right, it's probably the battery, but what if it's the phone? Right now, it's inside the 30 day window. I'd ask for a new one, while the option is still available.

Still a simple issue, have them note your account that you are trying the battery first, which is cheaper for everyone all around, then if is it the phone after another week or so, you can still have it replaced without hassle.

Well I went into the local store this morning and got a new battery installed (they told me that they "had" to do that beofre changing our the phone. Charged the battery fully and then within a few hours, and after a couple short phone calls, I noticed that the phone was getting quite warm again and that the battery meter was reading lower than 4. Off I went to the store again and told them to give me a new phone NOT REFURB...I watched as they took the phone out of the box, removed the adhesive plastic cover and inserted my SIM card. I was told by a manager that the 30 period would start again with this phone. I'll keep everyone up to date with the rest of the story!

Did the battery feel warm/hot or was the heat mostly coming from the phone or was it too hard to tell?

I am with bbbssport (again) on this matter. Glad to hear you pressed them for a new unit and I hope that fixed your issue. As an additional benefit, they said you now have another 30 days to test drive the phone! Then again ... "they said" we had insurance ... so who knows? 🤣

Best of luck to you.

The battery felt a little warm, but most of the heat was felt near the bottom of the phone on the underside where I believe the circuit board would be housed.

I am speaking from experience. Everything that you mentioned ur cell phone was doing is the exact symptoms of the cell phone being tapped. I went through the same thing. Didn't have a clue for a while what was going on. However when I found out it all started to make sense. Someone/some people had installed a spy program on my razr v3. Suddenly my battery was rapidly diminishing, the majority of my phone calls would not come through. My SMS messages would appear a day or two after they were sent. My phone was warm all the time and the lights would flash for no reason and sometimes it would vibrate for no reason. Also, it started making a strange random beeping sound when i was talking on it. I had to contact my provider and have them rese...

Yes, but have not had a problem with this kind of issue. From the first day of use it seemed to have a normal battery life until approx 3 days before I returned the phonel. I even leave the BT on in my Palm T3 the entire time...just seems useless to me to have to stop and turn things on in order to get the benefit of automated dialing or picking up my jabra and talking away.
