Motorola RAZR V3
V3 or Smartphone? Help!
Problem? I have gotten accustomed to the Windows Mobile interface and have heard that the V3 falls short by comparison. But the V3 is a quad band with a great speakerphone. I am so torn.
What will I lose by passing on a smartphone in favor of a V3, which one salesperson called "a regular phone in an attractive shell?" What would you do? I'm leaning toward waiting for the next generation of the Razr...even if that's a long time from now âšī¸
Any feedback is appreciated.

I totally agree with cgydave on this one. I have had two V3's (sold the first Asian version and kept the American/Cingular Version).
I also have been through literally 5 of the new Moto smartphone MPX220. This phone is very similar to the audiovox except it's buggy. They went through a recall due to volume and supposedly fixed the phone but did not. I had a sound engineer friend hook my phone up to some of his equipment to test REAL audio output and there was literally NO difference in the original phone and the supposedly upgraded phone.
Anyway, off track. The V3 is an awesome phone with SOME cool features. If you are a heavy phone user you should really enjoy it. If you are more heavily dependent on the PDA funct...

Thank you both for your feedback. Sometimes the in-store salespeople do not have that much time to go over this or are not as knowledgable as some people online who actually own the phone. I really appreciate ya đ

Yes, I have about 6 days left under my 30-day AT&T warranty and the Razr is sold out all over NYC. That's why I am in a panic to get my hand on one so that I do not end up running out of time and paying full price for the Audiovox without giving the Razr a test drive. I'm in my own version of the movie "Speed," LOL!
I am also more confused because at an AT&T, now Cingual store, the employees told me that to get a Razr I'd have to switch to Cingular service on a new contract (since I got an AT&T phone through AT&T pre-full merger). I am calling customer service now because I don't understand.
If worse comes to worse, I'll just do without the Razr for now, envy those who have it *sigh* and see what happens with n...

Cingular said that I can migrate from AT&T to Cingular (which is what I'd have to do to get a Razr), but I cannot migrate back to AT&T. This is fine service-wise, but if I give up my AT&T phone, I cannot get it back b/c Cingular doesn't offer this particular phone.
It looks like I'll be holding on to the smartphone and waiting for the Razr's next version, whenever that happens. In the meantime, I'll continue to envy you Razr-heads đ
Since Cingular attained AWS, they're not going to carry any phones in retail stores that AWS SIM compatiable. As well, they have no intention to get AWS SIM compatiable RAZRs. Therefore if you do end up getting a RAZR V3, you receive a new SIM chip and will need to take the time to reprogram all the numbe...

Talked to a few co-workers of mine to confirmed with this. Turns out that if you're a current AWS user & want the RAZR V3, you do need to migrate to Cingular's billing system & their equivalent GSM rate plan.
Plus the RAZR phones that are sold are locked to only Cingular SIM chips. The current AWS SIM chip are only good with existing AWS phone models only (which are being slowly depleted and can be ordered only via 611 to customer care).
This is not true. I have a Cingular branded RAZR V3 and I am using it with my AWS SIM and it works fine. Currently, Cingular Phones are SIM UNLOCKED, but this might change in the future.
also, someone said that cingular was going to take this feature away from their line of phones. that is false. The purpose to do it is to allow their consumers to take their phone whereever they want. That is why cingular has changed their entire system across the nation to gsm and to eliminate all the gait phones. The unlocked phones will still be coming out...

Currently, ALL Cingular GSM phones are unlocked as far as I can tell, from testing this on a few different Cingular phone models, but this could still change.
By the way, Cingular still maintains a TDMA network in the U.S. A friend of mine still has his old TDMA phone and with Cingular.

They are not going to allow you to use prepaid sims if they can help it.
The only way they can help it is if they lock your phone.
