Locked or Not?????

ICS

Nov 9, 2004, 9:11 PM
Can someone who has the phone please verify if it comes locked or not?? When I called Wirefly they said theirs was locked, but I did not get the feeling they really even understood what that meant. Thanks!

Cingular's will be SIM locked due to a new lock/unlock policy we're adopting. 👿 Unlocks are not out of the question however, but of course it has to be reviewed by CS.

Can the unlock be done in the store if CS OK's it?? I travel internationally a great deal, and want to be able to use local service in other countries at times.

For this phone on Cingular (locked to Cingular, but purchased anywhere!):
No, it cannot be done in store. And customer care cannot do it anymore... You still call customer care, but they have to make sure you're eligible for it (have had the phone over 90 days, have international roaming provisioned [in case you don't do it right and need to call us], etc...) and someone gets back to you. BUT, most it cannot be unlocked until you have another non-Cingular sim card to put in it... generally, an oversees one...
When you put in the other sim card, it'll ask for the unlock code...
We (customer care) used to be able to generate them very easily, but not anymore!

But it CAN be done... just don't go to a store the day before you leave thinkin...

by CS do you mean customer service? if so, I would think that many of the cs reps that surf this site would be willing to lead people in the right direction to having their phones unlocked, especially for people like ICS. Locking phones is a crazy thing that we seem to do here in the states to limit competition - isn't it bad enough that to get the good rate plans you have to sign a contract? my 2 cents.

What in heavens name would be the point of offering the Motorola V3 locked to the public. I think it defeats the design feature of it being a quad band phone.

I travel all over the world a lot and It would be nice to know I can take my V3 with me when I get it!!!!! 👿

you can still take it, and it'll still work, but int'l roaming will apply. Hey I'm not too happy about it either, I've had several customers who have a problem with it. It's to my understanding that Day 1 will be the launch of that policy. Since my store won't be carrying the v3 I don't have too much of a problem with losing sales on THAT phone, but it still sucks when tryin to move v551's v400's and t637's. Damn good selling point at the moment though, all my inventory is currently still unlocked so it gets the new activations.

It doesn't so much defeat the purpose as make it more expensive, but I agree it's not a good move. I think that's why they're willing to look at unlocking them for you under certain circumstances.

So do you know under what circumstances they would unlock it?

If it works here in the states and it works then you need to change the setting in the phone to match your carriers internet settings.
