i500 vs. Treo 650 vs. i550

Last night I compared the i500 to the new Treo 650. I am hooked on the clamshell design (I HATED the way the 650 felt up to my ear), but could not justify it once I saw how awesome the 650's new Palm OS and graphics were. A rep just told me about the i550 yesterday. It would be the ultimate combo of both worlds if it will ever come out! I am willing to try waiting for a few more months... Are there any major features the Treo 650 has that the i550 doesn't?

I'm with you John. I did the same thing today and I'm very curious about the the i550.
The sales man I spoke with at Sprint told me it was due out in less then a month, but who knows if he's right.
I also want to know, if it does hit the streets, will it be Blue tooth compatible?

The salesman at Sprint you talked with must work for a third party retailer or just not know his stuff. I spoke with the regional Samsung rep about the I550 and the outlook is grim. Sprint wants to sell out the stock on the I-500's before they start selling the newer version. This is unlikely unless they dramatically drop the price on the I-500's, and with the stiff competition from the Treo 650, it seems as though the I-550 may just be a pipe dream as far as Sprint is concerned.

Have you checked retail on the I500 lately? I think you'll be pleasantly suprised...

...$450 sounds like a lot for a phone they're discontinuing, but that's a price drop of $150 from retail. With activation, the thing's only $300 (and still worth every penny). Check it soon, you'll see that I550 before you know it.

Absolutely true. At the present time, if you buy the i500 over the internet the price is only $269.99.

I'm hoping this is a precursor to the i550 being released in the not too distant future.

That would be nice. The last report, which was eons ago, stated that the I550 would be released Q1 2005. I will try and wait until mid Feb. before jumping on the treo band wagon. I really need the analog capabilities though.

Don't bother with the Treo 650 unless you just HAVE to have Bluetooth. As far as I can see, 99% of people buying the 650 are using the Bluetooth simply for wireless headset capabilities, and very little for sync. Be forewarned- Bluetooth was never designed with audio in mind. You'll find that quality and reception will be issues with a Bluetooth headset, and even an inexpensive wired headset will sound a million times better.
