Making a MP3 your ringtone?

I know there has been some posting on this subject but really with no conclusion. I just bought my 6255 through USC and it seems that any MP3 I try setting as my ringtone I get the "Invalid file type" error. I've also tried converting the file type to AAC or MP4 format and that does not work either. Any suggestions?

i also have a uscc 6255 and as far as i can tell the only formats that work as ringtones are .mid (midi) and .amr (nokia ringtones) other than those and the internal recorder of the phone you can't really get anything else to work ..... I'm still looking for a hack on that one but so far thats it

I think all you need to do is rip an mp3 to a midi file or what would really be nice is rip a mp3 to a .amr file. I search around on download.com for something. I'll let you know what I find.

You can use Nokia's PC Suite to rip an MP3 to AMR but after i did this is STILL got an invalid file type when i tried to set it as a ringtone... it plays the file when i hover on it though. Why can we not make our own ringtones!

the dude is correct, what i have found is that you can assign your "groups" an mp3 as a ringtone though. iv also learned that it was dissabled in order to make you pay for downloads. anyone found any hacks?

In case this hasn't brought up yet. I have to ask...are you able to play mp3's on your phone? If you are, try cutting the mp3 file to a part of the song that you like. Use whatever it takes. Try MPtrim or some kind of wave editor. When you cut it where you want it, use am audio converter to change back to mp3 and change the bit rate. I'm using a 32bit rate for all my cuts. I'm also using the Nokia 6255i but it is not tagged with any carrier branding. I think mine may be straight from Nokia or a vendor that deals directly with them. Try the bit rate change. Good Luck!

1.You can set up to 7 ring tones total on the phone. 5 for the caller groups,1 for the default ringtone, and 1 for unidentified caller.
2.To edit the normal default ring tone go to Menu>Settings>Profiles or Tone Settings and select the profile you will edit.
3.To change the unidentified caller ring-tone go to Menu>Settings>Call Settings and look for the option "Ringing no Caller ID" and select it. Turn it on and it will let you choose what you want to be the ring tone. If you want tone you must select Gallery and then find the tone on your phone.
4.To change the 5 caller Groups go to Menu>Contacts>Caller Groups. Select any of the caller groups rename it,person you want to be associated with the group. Then change the group Ringing Tone to ...

If I understand your problem correctly the answer is "you can't". US Cellular has done the same thing with their 6256i that Verizon did.By that I mean they have set the ringtone option on your phone to "DRM protected only".This means your phone will let you set as ringtones only tones you buy from them. You can reset this option to "all file types" and be able to use any music file you want. But to do this you will need a Nokia program called DIEGO(ver 3.06 or better). To find & understand Diego go to "howard forums.com" and read the Nokia Sub-Forum in the Verizon Wireless Forum. You will find all you need. 😁
