To DocB2: Here is the reply I promised you wrt the tech reply to your question on the MMC cards. I think that you had a more specific question, but this is all that they wrote. My 6256i is coming with the 64 MB memory card MU-1. -Lorna

Dear Lorna,

Thank you for your response.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail message and appreciate your patience.

We understand your inquiry in regards to where you may purchase Nokia Original MultiMediaCards (MMC) and Bluetooth Wireless headset.

The following Nokia Original MMC are compatible with the Nokia 6256i phone:

* Nokia 64MB Reduced Sized Memory Card MU-1
* Nokia 128MB

Thanks, Lorna, but it appears that they are pointing to the Nokia-branded products which are 1) more expensive and 2) may be overkill. As I mentioned I have a Kingston MMCmobile card which is the same as a reduced-size MMC card. The price for the 512mb card is about $45. (If I had known that a regular sized MMC card works I may have purchased one from BB when I got the phone.) Once I get it I'll post to let you know how it is working. Specifically, I am interested in the storage of MP3s, though from the sounds of it there is only a minimal player in this thing.

MMC cards are a new thing for me to research; I know very little about them except their function and that different phones have different generic names for them (like T-flash etc).

I am totally out of the loop for playing music on the 6256i but this does not mean that I don't want to learn. I have heard several people express disappointment that the cannot play MP3 songs as their ringtones so got curious about hearing what Nokia DOES offer as ringtones, but after going to the Nokia site and toggling almost everything there, i could not find ringtones to hear. I gave up.

I agree with you completely. And yes, if I had only known that a regular sized MMC card works... anyway, I got a 512mb Kingston dual voltage RS-MMC card from Ebay and just installed it to my phone, and everything seems to be working fine for now, photos, video clips, and recordings; haven't tried mp3 files yet since I care less about them.

A quick question or two...how do you format and load files on the card? I have read that the phone will format the card but can it be done on a card reader and can that reader be used to load files? As mentioned in another post I have loaded Nokia PC Suite and been able to use it BT sync with Outlook. Is this the best way to do file transfers?

Have read that do to speed cable is the way to go for mp3's. For ringtones bluetooth seems to be fast enough for me. I have a 1 gig MMC comin for my 6255i. If you put a lot of mp3 on mmc you have issue with having to make playlist and phone only seeing first 200 songs. At least so I have read. Usb cable is NOKIA DKU-2

Unfortunately I have the 6256i and can play only one mp3 at a time. I'm researching any way to get a better player onto this phone but am not tech savvy enough to hack it myself. At any rate, in addition to the BT dongle I have a data cable on its way for faster transfers.

I bought a 1GB card.Topran off ebay. The VZW 6256i DOES NOT have a media player for MP3's like the Metro PCS version I got to play with. A played with a friend's Metro PCS version and saw the media player which I'm missing in the menu.
So, every MP3 tune requires opening the gallery back up and pressing play. It won't play songs continuosly. What a waste of card.
The camera's pictures are just really tiny and not that good. Haven't made a movie yet. Not sure of Max capacity of MP3 songs, but it's just so difficult to listen to them without a real media/MP3 player function. It's hardly worth filling the card up with MP3's, only to have to press "open" and Play before each song. What a drag!

realize that they reccommend these cards because that is what Nokia sells. I use a 2GB a-data MMC card that I bought on eBay. It works great except the mp3 player is limited to only displaying 200 tracks.

Is $87. for a refurbished 2GB a-data MMC reasonable or are brand new ones close in price to that?

BTW: MMC looks similar to a SD Card. What is the difference, please?

Thanks! doc
