Will Verizon offer this phone in the US?

I'm sorry if this is slightly off topic, but given the amount of stupid posts in this forum I felt that this post would provide the basis for an intellectual discussion regarding newer phones coming out which share similar features.

I am in love with the v710, however it doesn't sport one feature which is something I and my company are now looking at: CDMA and GSM combined compatability within the same phone.

There is a new Samsung A790 which now supports this feature, yet I've heard mixed reviews. Verizon has this phone now available through their corporate plans. We are looking at it, yet I'm not sure I really want anything other than a Motorola (or a Nokia)....for that matter...

Regardless, the Motorola A840 is also listed on pho...

Yes, they will but the A840 lacks BlueTooth but otherwise is the same as the V710 but with GSM.

I however read that this phone does indeed have bluetooth.
As a matter of fact, this post on Infosync World says it will have bluetooth (unless it's a typo)...

Hmm, but according to everyone else, that bluetooth part is the only unconfirmed part.

I spoke with a Verizon employee at a conference in Orlando last week and he said that they were still testing the phone; they've been having trouble with Motorola phones. He didn't know when it would be available.

You mentioned you were looking for a phone that is both CDMA and GSM compatible. Remember to bear in mind that the GSM capability on this phone is for Int'l GSM networks only, and will not work on US GSM networks. In the US, this phone will only work on the CDMA network.

Additionally, this phone does not have analog coverage like the V710. This is the main tradeoff between the two phones. Therefore, if you are not in a digital roaming area, you will not be able to make any phonecalls, including no 911 calls.

Wasn't sure if you were aware of these things I mentioned, but thought I'd give you a heads up.

Hmm, I thought the A840 only will lack Bluetooth as everyone said the Analog will still be there compared to the V710.

I'm sorry to say that this probably is not the case, unless Motorola changes the specs. Although the A840 is a quad-band phone, it has two CDMA bands (for US coverage), and two GSM bands (for Int'l coverage), making the phone all digital.

The V710 has two CDMA bands and one AMPS (or analog) band. Perhaps Motorola is not disclosing the analog band, but that doesn't seem logical, because their is no mention of an analog band in the FCC testing report.

Sorry to break the news to you. I was disappointed when I found this out as well. A lot of the people in these forums refer to the extra toys on the phone when comparing them rather than the technical aspects.

Yeah, I was disappointed that the Bluetooth wasn't there. It would have been cool if the A840 is the V710 + GSM 900/1800 without losing anything the V710 had.

Yes guys, I'm aware that the phone will use GSM overseas and CDMA over here in the US. That's why I Want it!!!
Screw GSM in the states anyway - the CDMA networks are more robust from what I understand about them.
I'm of course pissed about bluetooth not being available...and yes, analog would have been nice for those occassions when you need to use it.
I'm a tech and you obviously want to find the one device that will suit most of your needs in a very good way, but that will also deal with the odd occassion when you need things like an analog signal. Why can't someone finally stick all that into a sweet looking package? I'd buy 10.

This phone will solve the rent a phone program that Verizon Wireless offer to their customers that travel overseas. I'm sure Verizon Wireless is all over it.
