who will carry this phone? gsm companies or cdma companies? is there something we don't know about? considering the phone is for both networks??

Ok, I left something out...Motorolla I think Is prepping themselves for dual network compatability. Seeing how as Sprint PCS is bringing back Motorolla something serious is about to happen. At&T will probably get a revised version of this phone next year. The competition will be fun...

😕 I don't think it is intended for any gsm carrier, here in the US. The phone does not have the 1900 MHz frequency that is required on most gsm carriers... What do you guys think? 😕

99% sure Verizon Wireless.
Its GSM support is on overseas frequency bands only. In the U.S., it only supports CDMA. That should probably be made clearer 🤠- I may revise the intro text to explain that... sorry for the confusion.

Since the phone supports BREW it will be for Verizon Wireless. If it supported JAVA, it would be for Sprint.

It supports CDMA here (NEXTEL WILL NOT BE GETTING IT) and it supports OVERSEAS gsm.. no GSM carrier is getting it.. this one is going to Verizon and there is a variant in the making for Sprint as well.

The phone will be for Verizon. Since the big V is 45% percent owned by an overseas GSM carrier.

I think the whole point of any CDMA carrier carrying this phone or something like it is to give their customers an option. There are quite a few CDMA customers who like to go to Europe on holiday.

Agreed Michael Clancy, the phone IS for VZW. The GSM is 900/1800, which is Vodafone, and as you stated, Vodafone is 45% of VZW. The CDMA is VZW's band, and there is BREW, and 1xRTT in the CDMA2000 mode. These are all specs of VZW. This phone is the V710 with no Bluetooth, but added world phone capabilities.

I have to agree as Sprint has targeted the mid to lower economic section of the US population and that slice of life would not be a candidate for this type of phone. There would be no payback for Sprint on the subsidy that they would have to offer (and all the carriers subsidize the equipment price) to get people to buy this expensive equipment. Has anyone ever tried to price a phone with out service? Can you say sticker shock... sure I knew you could!

this will be a vzw phone. if you notice it uses BREW. generally only vzw phones use BREW.

In a word, yes. Especially for T-Mobile - their network is 100% GSM 1900, which the A840 does not have.

I'm trying my best to hold out and not move carriers becauese of phone equipment. But I'm dying for a bluetooth / vga / flip camera phone ... the V600 is leading me to AT&T but don't want to do it.
This looks like just the phone that might keep me at verizon but I didn't see any mention of bluetooth. Did i miss it?

No. The V710 and A840 are very similar phones, but that's the difference - the A840 trades Bluetooth for GSM world roaming.

Are you sure this phone doesn't have bluetooth? I've seen this phone on another web-site for a while now and it has always listed it with bluetooth.

This phone will definetly be for Verizon and Vodaphone will be the European partner. I understand that Vodaphone has significant investments all over Europe not just in the UK. I suppose one could activate with a non-Vodaphone European carrier on the GSM end though I'm sure the phone will not have its full range of capabilities in such an instance. I'm hoping that Verizon will offer an attractive plan that gives the same package minutes in Europe or America though. That would be nice.
