i was wondering what is better, buying from an actual shop, say verizon, or online? its my first time wanting to buy a "new" phone, so I want to get the best deal whether i get the a840 or the v710. thanks for your input!

It's price dependant. Remember with Verizon you get a warranty, and also can get insurance. If you buy it on eBay and you have something break in a month, you must pay to fix it. So if you can save $50-100 it may be worth it as at least you won't be locked into a contract. If it's close (as in the recent auctions on this model) perhaps not.
