I don't know much about GSM. If I buy this phone seperately, is it possible to get it to work with AT&T's network?

Thanks.

The quick answer is...yes.

But there is more info to consider. There are two versions of the phone. The Euro-Africa-Asia version which has 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. The US version has 850, 1800 and 1900 MHz. The US only uses 850 and 1900 MHz for GSM. If you buy the phone, you should get the US version (also called the 'b version' because the phone is labeled as 7610b) because you want to be able to use the 850 MHz band.

What about "Tri-band" ? For example, this website says it switches between 850 and 900:

Is that true?

Anyone know of a place to get a good deal on the US version?

Thanks.

It's a triband phone because it works on 3 bands - 900/1800/1900 for the Eurasian version and 850/1800/1900 for the US version.

There are also dual-band phones out there and a few quad-band phones. Those phones only use 2 or 4 bands respectively.

Any phone that uses more than one band, will switch between them automatically. It would crappy and annoying if it didn't. That site is just trying to hype the phone.

When you're using the phone in the US it will switch between 850 and 1900, because those are the only 2 bands used for GSM in the US. If you buy the Eurasian version, the phone will only function in areas where you get 1900 coverage.

There's a guy on eBay I've heard good things about - Chippery9. He doesn't have anything up...
