VX6100 Problem Sending Ringtones to Phone thru Email

Have a VX8000 and had no problem chopping 30 secs of a song using Audacity and converting to 64 or so kbps then emailing them to the phone, saving them and using them as ringtones.

My girlfriend just got a VX6100 and I tried to do the same. I sent the converted .midi file and it retrieves the msg but says either "failure to open pix message" (or something similar to that) or tells me that to "save" the file it needs to be under 30kb. Can anyone help me figure out how to do it via this method (e-mail)? (I may be getting a data cable and bitpim, but I want to figure out what's keeping it from working this way).

Thanks.
