SAR Radiation rating

Has anybody else noticed that this phone has an unusually LOW radiation number:
"Meets FCC SAR limit. Manufacturer's highest FCC reported SAR 0.96 at ear, 0.60 on body. Actual SAR may vary."

The quote is from Verizon. I have not seen another phone under 1.00 for either category. I guess that is another reason to like this phone...unless I am missing something

The low SAR was one reason this phone appealed to me. Any chance they are a mistake??? Who checks the phone companies' stats???

In the "info" section of each phone on phonescoop.com, there is an FCC ID link. Click on that and you can see the original FCC application for each phone. In there will be the SAR test reports.

Most vendors SAR ratings are for the maximum output of the phone. In general, with a decent signal and CDMA/PCS (versus analog, which needs higher output power), the actual SAR will be less.

According to the FCC applications, the LG 6100 has about 0.6 maximum SAR on PCS; the Motorola V265 has about 0.7 maximum SAR on PCS (w/ antenna extended). These are for the "cheek touch" position.

If you use the "tilt position" (phone slightly away from your cheek), the SAR values drop to about half that for each phone.
