6100 will beat 9900

Starter

Oct 13, 2004, 2:37 PM
Its simple, the 9900 may have video but who cares. I work for VZW and the 9900 is already discontinued. I can't even order anything for it. So 6 months from now when people have battery problems or charger problems then its going to be a big pain to get warranty replacements. If the 6100 stays out as long as the 6000 did then there will be no problem. LG also makes a more user friendly phone. I just hope that the CLA for my 4500/6000 will also work on the 6100. Its kinda nice having 2 phones and only 1 car cord. Of course, it won't matter because when the Koi comes out then I will replace my 4500.

You can still get it online for now but when the supply is gone then so are the phones. I have had customers calling every verizon in michigan looking for the phone and they are no longer available. I checked my listing for phones and the 9900 are "While supplies last" which means they are discontinued. Also the VX6000 is "While supplies last" but we all know that the 6100 is replacing it. The 8910 is what Audiovox is going to provide us with for now. If you don't believe me about the 9900 then call my store and just ask any rep that answers if the 9900 is discontinued or not (810-225-4789). I'm not saying that there won't be a few more that reach the stores because there might be, but trust me, they are no longer made. Its an awesome phone,...

FYI, The 9900 has been Out of Stock off and on for the past 2 weeks.

In fact, I talked to a rep 2 wks ago and he offered to send me one next day delivery when it came back in stock. In 2 days, it reappeared as in stock on the web site and then it was out of stock within 2 days.

It appears that they go out as fast as they come in, so it will be Out of Stock at times. So, please don't flame people either way. It depends on the day whether it's in stock or out of stock.

No offense meant or taken. I was disputing the "Discontinued" portion of his statement. That is what I am taking issue with. And all I want, as I stated in an earlier post, is that he agrees to eat his words, and worms, if it is proven that the 9900 is NOT discontinued, but merely out of stock.

If he is so sure that it is discontinued, he should have no problem agreeing to this. Instead he is dancing around it like Paris Hilton on X.

Yes, he was. However, basing his information on a sales tag, and not bothering to dig a little deeper is part of the problem with forums like this. People take on a tidbit of information and run with it. It is half the reason people are so misinformed, and shows an attitude of just wanting to start a thread to make people think they know more than they really do.

If they come in my store then its probably just some loose phones just laying at my direct fulfillment center. I'm not saying that a few more won't come in... I'm just saying that the phone is discontinued so whatever is left out there then thats it. I have very few accessories in stock and like I said before, I can't order any. I am not dissing the phone in any way but I work in the customer service department and there will be some brought back just like any other phone and I am not going to be able to get and replacement parts. Thats why I recommend the 6100 because LG has the tendency to keep their phones out longer.

I dunno Starter... every VZW person I've talked to says that the thing was simply out of stock, not discontinued.

If it were discontinued, wouldn't they pull the picture of the 9900 off of VZW website, like they did with the 530s when they were actually discontinued? They haven't. In fact, the pic doesn't even have the 'Out of Stock' text on it anymore, at least as of this writing.

I think the 9900 just sold way more than VZW or Audiovox was expecting, and that it was temporarily unavailable until Audiovox could scramble and make more units. Time will tell who's right.

I asked a VZW technical support representative on the phone yesterday about the 9900. He said that they were simply out of stock, and that as soon as the orders were replenished, they sold out almost as intantly as received. It is true, however, that Toshiba...who made the phone for Audiovox, won't be making phones for them anymore in the near future, so they didn't make too many 9900s to begin with. And because of this, they allowed Verizon to sell it at such a low price. As of yesterday evening, the warehouse had 3330 phones left, and he was sure they would sell right away.

Okay, I don't know how true this is, but some friends of mine who work for Verizon stated that the 9900 caught them (Verizon) off guard. The response was so tremendous that both Verizon and Audiovox were overwhelmed. Audiovox (Toshiba) only made a limited number of these phones. Unfortunately, the repsonse from the public was so great, their stock was depleted in record time. From what I understand, the inventory they are using to fill current back orders was supposed to be used for the upcoming holiday. Will the phone be disontinued?? I am sure at some point, Audiovox will say that's all we have. What a shame. Everyone knows that the Toshiba made phones are some of the best around. For those who wait, when supplies are truly depleted...

Is the 8910 any good? I think it's kinda bad that they released both the 9900 and the 8910 at the same time with the same price, because it's obvious which one people will go for. That said, the 8910 doesn't seem to have done well at all...compared with the rate that the 9900s were selling at. My NE2 is in a couple days, but I personally don't think I'll consider the 8910...if I have to go with a dual-mode, I'll probably go with the Samsung a670.

The 8910 is good, it's basically an 8600 w/ a camera and a little bigger. The only thing I didnt like was the keys (the whole keys, not just the numbers), they light up green like the lg vx 10 really old and cheesy looking. The display is tiny, but the phone feels REALY solid, like a tank

Starter is correct... Verizon bought the entire batch of the 9900 production... when they are gone that is it... they can not just "make some more" at the drop of a hat, or because it went over better than expected...

Just getting another production run of all the plastic parts would take months, much less all of the other unique components that have to be brought together to actually produce a phone...

There may have been a 10,000 or maybe as much as 100,000 of these phones made... but the 9900 is a SOWG product, and it was from the day of introduction...

Actually, there are some adults who started off in the trenches and clawed their way to the top levels. We are conceited and childish.

I am one of those. (I'm worse than my kid, and I throw temper tantrums.)

All I am asking is that he agrees to stand by his words. His failure to agree makes me believe that he does not fully believe he is correct. By simply stating that he agrees to my terms, Starter would gain credit. Since he won't, I think it is fair to say that as a sale tag person, he doesn't know half of what he claims. Disagree?

You can't really base it off the end of the month because Verizon still has some of the phones. Like I said before, Discontinued means no longer manufactured not no longer available. I'll be proven right in about 2 months. Phones have a shelf life of 6 months unless the phone sells really well. So I say that the 9900 will be no longer available by the end of the year. Thats 3 months. That gives Verizon enough time to sell what they have and prove that it is no longer made.

You're kidding right?

You are now going to say that there are enough out there to last through the end of the year WITHOUT manufacturing any more? So if they are still well available at the end of the year, that is just left overs.

No, the end of this month.

Any left overs will trickle out to the customers by then. If they still come after that, it is only because more are being made. Which they are. A LOT of them. The large response to the last sale has shown the powers that be that you can not only sell a good phone at a decent price to existing customers, but that it makes for a nice big PLUS in the Net New Adds column. More to come...

Ok, time to play teacher. DISCONTINUED means NO LONGER MADE!!!!! The phone is still available in some areas and will become available in more areas once all of the inventory is spread out. Its this simple, THE PHONE IS NO LONGER MANUFACTURED BY AUDIOVOX!!! Whatever Verizon has now is all there is. I am not saying you can't get it or its a bad phone, its actually pretty nice, I'm just saying that parts are hard to come by and will be harder to get as the months go by. Its just like the 9500, good phone but I can't even get batteries for it and the same thing is going to happen to the 9900. Time will tell all.

Your direct fulfillment center must be in your garage. We are getting another shipment to our center in the West Area for about 10,000. Why would Verizon sell a phone, discontinue it after less then a month, and then not support it? There just wasn't enough made. Oh, and I do the pricing strips too and while supplies last means that at $49.99 they won't last and they haven't. Since the price has gone up since 10/11, the 9900 will be replenished. The audio on the 9900 is horrible because of the single holed speaker you must line up perfectly with your ear or else can't hear. If you line it up its fine, but I can't stand dealing with it.

Also, the plastic on mine is creeking beyond belief when you hold it up to your face and put any pressure on it.
