I've read on the specifications that the phone has 6 MB memory...does that mean that there is only 6 MB available for MP3's, pictures, etc.? That would be the only thing holding me back from gettting this phone.

yup 6 mbs as a whole.. all i can say is turn all your mp3s into Windows Media Audio.. will drop each mp3 down to about 3 or 4 kbs.. that will give u a decent amount of room..

Well isn't an MP3 player, not a WMA player? Besides, I don't think that a WMA could drop the file size that dramatically without losing alot of quality.

no reason for the attitude u posted a question i posted a possable solution u dont have to agree or like it but it is a possable salution..i dont think my mp3 to wma files have lost any quality actually.. and i was just saying if i remember correctly this phone sapports both mp3 and wma and given wma is much smaller a file it may work out..

I wasn't giving an attitude...

MP3 and WMA are both compressed sound files, and to my knowledge WMA's don't compress too much better than MP3's.

Do you remember where you saw that this phone supports WMA format as well as MP3?

Yeah I'm completely baffled as to how this phone is supposed to be able to hold mp3's with only 6MB of storage, and no storage expanision (card slot). They speak of "streaming video" on the info page, so perhaps the same goes for the music... streaming only, and you can't actually store it on the phone.

And I think the best that can be done with wma's and still have them be bearable to listen to is to compress them no more than to make them half the size of a typical 128k bit rate mp3 file. So that would put you being able to maybe put 2-3 songs on there I guess, and still leave enough room for anything else that will require storage. Who knows though?

why would 6mb of memory hold you back? I have a v400 with 5mb of memory, which you will have 1024kb more. I have 17 or 18 full games, 30 - 40 ringtones, and about 35 pictures. and i am still not full. and the games are the most part i can delete one game for probably 15 pictures. or etc.

If i was to get 1mb of memory for the internet, how many games and/or ring tones can i get for that amount without going over?

Songs, if they are MP3 format (which is what the phone says it plays), can be 1 mb if it has really bad quality. Think about it, say the song is 128 kilobytes per second (good quality), and the song is 3 minutes (180 seconds) long. That means that that song would be about 2.3 mb (23040 kb). Almost half of my memory taken up by one song?

I'm guessing that the v400 must have some other memory bank to store these songs. The z500a might also, because it is extremely unrealistic to provide 6 mb for MP3's, games, pictures, etc.

No the V400 only had 5MB and its not unrealistic to think this has only 6MB..this is a low end, low priced flip by SE aimed at customers who just can't afford a more high end phone..all phone manufacturers have to make a wide array of models to fit into everyone's different budgets..just like auto manufacturers or any other kind of business..I would love to drive a Benz with all it's luxary, however I can only afford a Nissan..
