help!!! cingular = bad signal

I have T637 and it was great.Then AT$T became cigular.For some reason I get no bars or I get 1 bars some times.I used to get 5 bars. Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Mad I live in Sunnyvale\San Jose Ca area.
has anyone else got this problem after the switch.Maybe a setting can be changed.
